Burnedoutnewbie, you are correct in all your statements... however, if waiting for these guys to get their act together is going to make my entire trailer load late for the rest of my stops, or make me sit for an unreasonable amount of time I would rather get it off myself and get out of there...

While i'm sure there are going to be some yell real loud about drivers who don't unload yata, yata, yata. I agree with you. All you said is right on.Don't ya hate driveing for half the night then unloading in hundred degree heat gettin' all sweaty, then gettin back in your truck. No wonder people talk about dirty truck drivers. I try to stay as clean an professional looking as possible.
Oh and tell me the last time sombody carried out YOUR packages when you spent money at wail-mart. Your right you get paid to DRIVE.Dominick253, battz and born&raisedintheusa Thank this. -
Two really bad shippers.....Imation, Southaven MS 1330 appointment, arrived at 1230 was told 'they could probably work me in early!!!!!',eventually backed onto a door by 2330 and loaded and off the door by 0230. Nestle Waters, Hawkins,TX DROP & HOOK!! arrived with about 3hrs to spare on my 14 pulled up the long driveway waited in line with about 40 other trucks eventually out of there about 45minutes out of my 14 with nowhere within about 30-40 miles to park!!! Another fun fun place (again...supposedly D&H) is American Fibre in Martinsville,VA I have had a 4 and a 7 hour stint there. Get there and usually the trailer you are supposed to be hooking to has yet to be loaded back under the trailer and wait, run into the office there and told 'you will be done in 45 minutes', run back in 1hr later....'you will be done in 45 minutes' get puzzled look when telling them they had said that 1 hour previously....Wait a further 2 hours which turns into 3 then 4 then 5......talk to someone actually working in the warehouse who informs that they will be STARTING on my load in about 20 minutes and eventually pull off the dock 7 hours after arriving!!!
Most of the Target DC's I deliver to (when D&H) are easy to deal with and had a brokered load the other day from Rexam in Hot Springs AR where I was in and out with a full trailer within an hour...including paperwork etc... and at the other end Optimun Nutrition in Aurora,IL I was in and out within 45 minutes....it can be done if people DO THEIR JOB which with a lot of shippers/recievers people blame everyone and anyone other than their own imcompetence and laziness.....usually from whoever is in charge of traffic or whatever department!!mje Thanks this. -
Graphics International in Lumberton NC. Appt time was 6 pm, I checked in at 5 PM. Loaded and leaving message sent at 8:15 Am. Every time I asked they kept telling me I would be loaded in an hour or less. This happened 500ish miles away from my home the day prior to my scheduled off time....needless to say I was late. They package chicken for Kraft, and could care less about you or your deadlines. Your appt???HA we dont care!!! You get loaded when we feel the urge to get onto our nice shiny new forklifts and actually work for a few minutes.
Never will I haul for Kraft again or buy their products. Besides, fresh chicken is better anyway!!!mje Thanks this. -
Right on to the potato seller!!!thejackal, battz and born&raisedintheusa Thank this. -
It comes down to the office workers that really don't understand the life out here. I had a load from California, loaded on Friday night. Had to be in eastern ohio 4 miles from the Petro on 80 on Tues morn. Arrived Monday night. Went there Tues morn, they refused the load. Told me to come back next day. Came back Wednesday, they again refused the load. Told them to get ready and they said for what. Advised them one way or another it was coming off my truck. I would keep backing downhill against their dock until it all came off. They agreed to take the load.
Money to me as O/O. Zero detention pay.mje Thanks this. -

The other day I had an early am delivery at the Costco DC in College Park,Ga. All seemed well until I checked in at the receiving office. I noticed a sign that said "Drivers must remain in break room while being unloaded". Well this just didn't seem right to me, I actualy felt insulted. So I asked the clerk if I could disconnect my truck and park away from the trailer while they unloaded me. She said "No". I don't see what the big deal is,they do thisw at other companies "WTF"??? I know this may seem petty. But,I have a problem when I'm told I can't wait in the truck while being unloaded. This makes me feel like I'm being treated like a child that can't be trusted or a criminal that must be confined and watched or no better than an animal that must be caged not to roam free. Anyway the last thing I want to do is sit in a crowded break room with a bunch of other drivers all talking over each other with a TV blaring. I
'd be much more comfortable in my truck where I could catch up on paper work, eat breakfast and get alittle extra sleep while waiting.Who knows how long they would take to unload me. So,I felt it my duty to stand up against this injustice and asked for my bills back and I left without getting unloaded. My ops manager wasn't too happy. But,I feel that if he doesn't understand my actions and won't back my decision then I'm not too concerned about what he thinks. He can keep his opionion to himself. I see this policy as completely disrespectful to myself and all drivers that deliver to this company. I'm tired of being told that I must be a proffesional and then being treated like a sub-human retarded child by shippers, customers,my company, truckstops and the public at large. I feel it is my duty to put a stop to this and confront everybody that thinks it's ok to treat us drivers with total disrespect. And I don't care what the consiquences are. They want us to be proffesionals, then treat us like proffesionals. I'm done ranting.x1Heavy, Elg1968, Flyingdutchman1982 and 3 others Thank this.
