I rarely do nights... most of the time I end my day at 6-8pm, few times last month did 12-1am.
After doing nights for 9 months as a team driver, I had enough of not enjoying the scenery, trafficand seen way too many deer.

Sounds like not many of you are having too good of a day. I, on the other hand, had a great day. 601.5 mileage in today, still had an hour 15 left on my 14 and half an hour of drive time but can't get to anywhere with that. Delivered my load in Woodland CA and actually got a "PRE"assignment to pick up a load going to Portland OR from the same place. It doesn't deliver until Thursday morning and I'm only 243 miles away which is gonna suck for tomorrow but.... I will be able to park it at the Portland OC and go home for the night. I would see about relaying it but havnt had much luck with those kind of requests and I need to do laundry.

Ok, so eating out everyday while on the road is expensive, even though I usually eat only once a day. When I first started out I kept food in my ice chest to make sandwiches and salads as well as milk for cereal. That gets old fast, especially having to keep a watchful eye on ice. Stuff goes bad too quickly and I end up throwing most of it away. Thought about canned food but there isn't much variety. And then I started thinking.
Does anyone or has anyone stocked up on MREs in there truck and have eaten those while on the road. I've found boxes of 12 meals for $60. That's $5 per meal, 1200 calories per meal. Plus you get to have a hot meal. I think I'm gonna search around and find a good supplier and order some up.
And before you ask, I have had military issued MREs and actually enjoyed them! -
When I leave home, I make sure to pack about 10-12 MRE's. Can't carry much else. But I stry to spread out the MRE's over the four weeks at a time that I'm out. Also, if for some strange reason I'm stranded somewhere or running low on cash, I have them stockpiled.

I live off of shelf stable, non-refrigerated grub the whole while out. Basically canned salmon, canned salt-free vegtables, beans (I'm not teaming yet), bread-n-spread cheese, a bag of apples and pears, almonds, carnation instant breakfast, fruit cups and snack bars. Cost me about $12 per day to eat not including the extra I spend on coffee now and then (shelf-stable food is a lot costlier but still cheaper then road food). I couldn't afford to eat out if I wanted nor would my gut agree with it.
Boogers Thanks this. -

Fridge/freezer...? Yes they are costly (at least $500-600) but they work and last... -
Had one and it burnt out within 3 months and never got cold enough to keep stuff from spoiling.

I eat a lot of soups, PBJ's, and instant oatmeal.
I do it to save money, but also to save my gut. I don't want to get one of those big trucker guts.
It does get old, but being poor and fat gets older...faster =P
Once or twice a week I'll splurge on some fast food.
I stay far away from soda, and when I do drink soda, it's a diet coke.
I also walk around a lot.
I'll make a lap or two around a rest stop...it only takes 10 min, and it's a big help.
I encourage everyone to do the same.
Park far at the far end of truck stops and take 10 min walks a few times a day. =)treedodgingfool Thanks this.
