I know a guy that might disagree about the I shift. I had to go get his trailer and take his load to CA. Was a really good paying LTL. Just wouldn't move, all the truck would do was idle. So he got dragged in and they worked on it that afternoon and had absolutely no idea what was wrong (this was when my phone rang). It took them a week to figure it out and get him back on the road. And when your magic electric deals that let you haul ### down the mountain fail how are you going to stop that 80,000#? I would suggest that you guys turn off the engine brakes and try slowing down or stopping with the service brakes on a mountain.

There is a selector panel on the dash with the M-Drive. A simple r-n-d pattern with a manual up and down if you so choose to do some of the shifting yourself. There is also the ability to go full manual as well.

One thing I like about it is the standard and performance mode choices. For me, I'll run in performance mode when I'm loaded (6,200 gallons of spring water) which will keep skip shifting to a minimum and also let you go higher up with the RPM's for more power. The standard mode seems to be designed for fuel efficiency, and will shift faster and can skip 3-4 gears at a shot depending on terrain.

At any rate, I like the transmission, and while I may be going into an 18 speed Pete if I transfer over to our dump trailer division, I would certainly consider spec'ing a truck with it if I were buying one.

No not tanked, and the reverend fairplay barely skimmed by watching a public round of fisticuff, losing five pounds on the process, just not all that good at typing on a phone...

WoW, a truck down down, go figure. What are the odds? Do you think a manual transmission has never left a guy sitting on the side of the road?

And what do you do if a non magical manual trans fails going down a mountain. Has that never happened either?

Actually there isnt anything magic about the auto trans. The 3 pedals are just a standard trans with a shift box hanging on the side. Two pedals have a torque converter in them, and are more of a "true" automatic.

Penn and Teller did a show about them a while back proving there wasnt any real magic in them at all. Just gears and fluid.

striker and Scania man Thank this.

A week? Are you serious? Jeez if you kept someone's truck at your garage here you would be shot! If it wouldnt engage gear then it sounds like something small, sensor, actuator failure or something like that , there's not much on them that can go wrong, sounds to me like he should be talking to the garage owner, on most service deals here if your truck has broken down for more than 24hrs they have to provide you with another, since that was introduced I've seen trucks blow engines, have a new one ordered and have it fitted in the 24hrs, I'd seriously be questioning that garage owner.
