My "Freightliner automatic" is a two pedal. Easy to back and easy to drive. Probably the same as what Mack and Volvo use.

But I will say this for the old timers, apparently old habits die hard, like grinding gears. Boss road tested a guy today on one of the manual frieghtshakers, guys been driving 25 yrs, claims 2 milllion miles. Only time he didn't grind a gear was from a standing start. Every float shift was a grind up and a grind down. Went to test drive him in the auto shift Mack's, he was so adamant against it that he wouldn't even let the boss give him a 2 minute tutorial that would have gotten him going. Needless to say, he'll be back at unemployment.

Well there is gpod and bad in every buch, but a transmission is like a new girlfriend akin to switching truvck they all don't cotton to certain speeds ....

Don't get me wrong, I prefer a manual, but if i can get a two pedal auto like this one where it doesn't move until you give it fuel, and to get that type in a Pete then ill buy a 13 speed auto over a 13 speed manual.
I know this might sound ridiculous, but I'm honestly not as tired at the end of the day. I feel more in control in certain situations I've encountered because I didn't have to worry about downshifting.

I know most old timers would burn me for it haha.
It all boils down to preference, I said I prefer a manual but now I'm either way. Ill drive whatever my company gives me. If I become an o/o I might just get an auto. If I like the way it drives.
Some say they jerk you around, but if you get used to how it shifts and when to let off the fuel, you'll shift smooth as butter.
The main con I have would be that it needs at least 90psi of air in the tanks to shift. I have found though if I shut it off in drive or reverse and the air gets low I can still put it in neutral and it will start.

It is all down to preference, I like a nice manual box too, I'm not that bothered which I drive but I do like a nice auto, you can just relax, keep your back to the back of the seat and cruise.
You should try an auto based on a syncro box, always smooth no matter what, you don't realise it's just changed gear till the rev counter moves,
How the feck did that happen? -
