Geez... last time I was called Supertrucker was when I ran chains over Snoqualmie with an empty deck. Took me weeks to recover my self-esteem.

    This could take longer...

I engine brake till it shuts off (if applicable situations), flip the jakebrake switch off, DS two gears (ie, 10th>8th), flip brake switch back on, repeat.

Now, I'm in 6th. If all has worked out, I let it pull the engine down to about 600rpm then clutch in (about, like you said, 8-10mph), slip outta 6th, button down, get ready for 3rd, to take off. Or 1st/2nd if I'm loaded. If this too is done correctly, and I was able to time the light/traffic, I'll slide into my re-start gear and keep going.

If not, full clutch, full brake. wait.

I CAN float with the engine brake on, it's harder. Gotta shoot it up more in rpm. I've gotten lucky. But mostly, I've failed. And the times I did it, I didn't flip it off. Happens if I have to brake hard&fast and forget to flip it back off.

I haven't double clutched since my CDL test. I was taught to float in a dump truck well before I had my license, so it's more comfortable. Double clutching sounds like something overweight drivers should be doing. Sometimes have to single clutch when going to a lower gear.

A clutch is for starting when stopped.

You didn't get that phrase quite right. "Only people that can't shift use the clutch."

My old KW that now has 1.5 million miles on it was not shifted with a clutch and has never had the tranny apart. It still shifts perfectly.
