Co-Pilot Truck from ALK for IPad.

Since you ALREADY HAVE an IPad, and ALK wires PCMiler. It's much better than PCMiler on a PC, or on a dedicated device.

Remember - NO GPS is perfect - Rand McNalley MC Atlas, and a combination of GPS, Atlas and Google Earth should get you in the ballpark at least...

RC is correct. Have to use the GPS with trip planning and still call for last mile.

But I fought for a refund on GPS software for IPad. Was slow and clunky. POIs poor and couldn't find 7 of 10 business addresses that I entered.

While certain things I would change about my TND 710, it seems to be the best of the stand alone. And I heard the price is down to $299.

So far so good for the Garmin my wife bought me.

Free map updates for life, as well as traffic alerts etc.
It allows allows you to enter as many stops as you wish, unlike my last older one which only allowed the destination and one stop in between. Not cool for OD loads where the routing can be very "interesting" to say the least...

I love it when the GPS topic is brought up. These devices are way over-priced and never come up to the expectation. I think what the products need is allowing the trucker to report mistakes as they happen and appear. Too many things go into the making of GPS software, too many variables and limitations to be accounted for, along with the huge number of changing restrictions on streets and highways. So change is constant, and they will never keep up if there wasn't a real time feedback and update from the driver community.

I couldn't disagree more with you. Just the mileage by state tracking alone for IFTA makes it worth while for an independent. One less thing in a long list of things that you need to worry about.

And if used with proper trip planning it can be a great safety tool.

Having 100% faith in it is a mistake. But that is no different than a map, google, directions from customer, etc. I strongly encourage all of my drivers to get one.

I have a rm 510 that i bought after a lot of research. It has its moments but I sure do love it. I would never leave home without it and sometimes it just plain amazes me. I trust it much more than the receptionist in the shipping dept. Sometimes I wonder how they got to work!!

I had 3 in my bus.

The old Truckmate that came with it. The Pioneer that I put in with the stereo, and the Co-pilot on my laptop.

ALL 3 disagreed on routing, all 3 got me into trouble when I trusted them.

    They are just a TOOL.

There is no substitute for COMMON SENSE...

You can report mistakes and changed on the rand McNally TND 510 and 710. And with the newest update it's even easier.

No it's not perfect but a great tool. I compare the route to my atlas and google maps on my phone. Rarely do I get in trouble and when I do it's usually my fault.
