The Argosys are exported to Australia, New Zealand & South Africa, so "smarter Europeans":smt017 ...have nothing to do with Argosy's.

    Its an FLA model.

They will make them again when we start buying them again, I love COE but my operation calls for for conventional, but if I ever make any money in the dump truck industry, I will convert a COE, probably an International 9700 or which ever is the one with flat floor and set forward axle, my first truck was a 1985 9670 Int'l.

to avoid COE in the USA is the same stupid thing to avoid conventional in Europe.

IMO, COE are good for urban operations, small yards. Conventionals are better on highway. In Europe the entire trucktor+trailer lenth is limited so they cant haul on hood and they were forced on cabovers. Iveco, Mercedes and other build conventionals but cant use them widly on EU roads.

There is hidden war in Eurocomission now. Truckers want to eliminate lenth limits and push weight limits to use conventionals and road trains (ling b-doubles, dolly axel with additional semis, they want 60 0000 kg weight limit!), but railway owners of cource do not want it.

even if they change law and allow more it would not be possible for most operators to use them at least here

I agree, there are places short wheel base truck can used be only. That's why there are yard trucks, day cab conventionals. We use conventionals and cabovers.

I think if I ever bought another truck and the length limits were increased I'd still buy a Coe , maybe a Longline style design but certainly Coe, much easier to manage on our tight lanes and nowdays a conventional has no distinct advantage over a Coe .

An advantage a conventional has over a COE is cost.
    Initially cheaper to buy.
Most evident in a small front accident.
The cost on most conventional models is usually limited to lights, bonnet (Hood), inter-cooler(CAC) radiator etc.
On a COE the whole cab suspension etc usually gets damaged as well.
What could be a fiberglass repair on a freight-liner could be a very costly repair on a Scania COE.
I still prefer COE because of its functionality in our market and appreciate quality.

That's a fair point about the crash repairs ,that makes sense.

Are convetionals cheaper? I remember pricing a new scania conventional and it was €3000 more expensive, I don't doubt you but I am surprised . I guess like everything else, when they are in mainstream production things will be manufactured cheaper and also dealers will use anything to get extra money

I can be sure about inital price. Lets compare 9800i and 9400? ore ST and Argosy....

Crash repare. Scania T-series were overproced becouse they made really many cobovers and they saved $$$ on quantity of producing.

I wanna compare two accidents in Lugansk. FH hit trailer. Minor accident, but headlamps, grill, windshield, roof, doors... all damaged. The same accident with VN and hood+headlamp+bumber. 1/3 of FH damage cost.

    Scania man Thanks this.
