I have read this thread and the other thread. I commend AT for being so honest and posting his experience, it is great information for many younger drivers out there.

I am baffled by the 'older drivers' who are drawn to his threads like moth's to the flame and feel the need to teach the 'young man' all the lessons about trucking, and life in general, in a few smarmy paragraphs. Something about people's obsessions with this kid feel a little creepy to me.

If life's lessons were so easy to learn by reading others peoples advice, we would all have had boring lives with no experiences of our own. Remember, everybody's life follows a different path, what you call a "mistake", I call life experience and a lesson learned.

As far as the 'job hopping' comments, sounds like a few people are disappointed with their own choices. Personally, I always made every attempt to stay at a job for as long as I could, but I NEVER turned down a better opportunity when it came along. As long as you are honest about your intentions and goals and give ample notice, employers understand. I Don't have a single previous employer who would not to this day give a good reference.

went to south hill again last night. We got kicked outta walmart on wen, kicked out of the old walmart on thursday night, last night we went back to the walmart since we have no where else to switch 14 trucks...they dont give us a place they just say Exit XX and we have to find a place to legally park 14 trucks for 1-4 hours....i love how that OUR job....

I ran threw burlington again last night on the way back, got back at 430am, worked the dock till 10AM! 15 hour day!

I also now understand why almost every company teaches you how to use a log book in orientation, i've spent the month and a half ive been here trying to get these drivers to understand the 14 hour rule, they seem to think that after 14 hours you have to stop whatever your doing and go home for 10, they just cant seem to comprehend you cant DRIVE after the 14th hour, i literally had to show them my green book. Also this company likes you use 100 air mile rules when it fits their needs BUT they ask you and since most of these idiots dont know better they do it, i told dispatch what he could do with his 16 hour BS.

I've had more then enough of this crap, BUT unlike alot of you assume i'm not some little kid living at home, i've been on my own since i was 16, i have plenty of bills to pay, so walking off the job over small stuff isnt an option (well it is but im not burning my house money to live on because i got mad..) I'll find something else, hopefully sooner then later, but till then i need to keep working, i really dont wanna go back OTR unless its my way which would require me to take all of my house money and put it towards going O/O which would defeat the purpose of going local to have a real life.

gotta a busy 3 days off, going to speed street tonight (wanted to go last night to see justin moore but i didnt wanna call out, since we work on that stupid point system) then on sunday im going to the 600, and on monday i might just take the boat out. My goal tonight.....drink until i forget where i work :biggrin_2559: tonight in Clay Walker, Lover Boy, and Night ranger as well as a bunch of no name bands.

When using the one day per week 16 hour exception, it doesn't matter how far out you travel, you can use the exemption as long as you return to your home terminal when going off duty for your 10 every night the week you use it. If you lay over one night, you are not eliglible until the next week.

AT, I hated real LTL for the first 6 months after leaving W/S. Maybe it'll grow on you afterwards.

LTL isnt that bad, just need to find the right company. You do have quite a bit of experience so Im sure you will have no problems. A lot of the better companies know all about the OTR and other bad LTL companies. I left CWF in a bad name and YRC didnt seem to care, along with ABF and estes express.
