Maybe not in Europe, but they sure do in the US, especially the ones that transport passengers.

here's what i see about qualcomm systems. and i see this ALL THE TIME.

TIRED TRUCKERS THAT DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. and yes they've all had qualcomms.

i've never seen a truck off that DIDN'T have a qualcomm yet. but that's not to say there aren't any.

NO ONE CAN CONTROL YOUR BODY. only your body knows when it's tired and when it's awake.

you all say outlaw truckers. when it reality we're safer drivers. becuase we sleep and drive at OUR discrection. not when the company wants us too. and defenitely not when the govt wants us to.

THE #1 RULE OF DRIVING IS NO FATIGUED DRIVING. that will always supercede any rule the govt wants to impose.

if i work for a company that uses satellite. (which i never will). i'm driving at my convenience. which means drive till i'm tired. sleep till i'm awake. my load will get there. in a safer manner then the govt imposed rules. and i won't be getting fired for driving my truck in a ditch.

my body has never worked for 11 hours without requiring a power nap. and i'm sure all you are that way.
just like my body never sleeps for 10 hours. never has, never will.

outlaw truckers. i'm a more safer and alert driver then all you qualcomm users. i don't have dispatch interrupting my sleep. or constantly bugging me while i'm driving. or telling me how to do my job. they don't tell me to log 14 hours loading. then i have to take my 10. i'm free to move off the property without the cops getting involved becuase my hours are used up. if i'm 15 minutes from my delivery. i'm making my delivery. not spending the night somewhere.

and when it's time to go home. i don't care if i'm one hour away and i'm out of hours. I'M GOING HOME.

you qualcomm users think your safer. better guess again. you think you make more money. i don't see it.

bottom line. your a puppet with a string being pulled by uncle sam and your company.

outlaw trucker. i have the freedom to do my job and i'm safer then you machines being micro managed.

those qualcomms are against the law. but you all are too stupid and think FMCSA is the law. and you all let the govt tell you where your supposed to be. and what your supposed to be doing. how does the govt know where your supposed to be???????????????. cuz one truck obviously has more power and speed and can get there faster then an another truck.

all they are is a harrasment to us drivers. fmcsa is a waste of tax dollars. and so is csa and psp. neither of which do absolutely anothing to put people to work or HELP people get a job. they are totally oppposite. they put people out of work faster then you can snap your fingers.

and let's not forget the police harrasement was have to deal with not becuase of those idiotic programs.

CSA 2010 ISN'T A GOOD THING. AND NEITHER ARE ELOGS. THEY ARE PLAIN AND SIMPLE HARRASMENT AND A NUISANCE. THEY ARE A QUICK WAY TO RUIN PEOPLE CAREERS.

    Snowwy: AMEN, AMEN and AMEN.

It must be human nature to want to be led off a cliff into a pit of vipers. Uncle Sam can give you a crap sandwich and most sheeple would ask "what end would you like me to eat first sir?

Not sure how Elogs are a nuisance to me. I use one. I usually run 60-62 mph most of the time (truck will bury the speedometer). My revenue was over $190K last year. Home every weekend/holiday and two weeks off a year (nope.. not on a dedicated run). And I sure do not miss having to fiddle with paper logs. Not ideal for everyone, and I have never said they work in every situation, but they are not the end of the world for many that use them. Not sure how people using them are any safer. I have gotten one ticket for a moving violation in 30 years at this game. Never rolled a truck or put one in a ditch. Never had a preventable accident. Never put out of service. Never got fired/penalized/forced out because I dictated when I could arrive at a shipper/receiver.

And regarding even having a Qualcomm in the truck, I sure like it a lot better than the old days of having to track down a pay phone, waiting for my turn at it to check in or get load info. Or having to get up every hour or two and go back to that phone to see if I had a load assigned yet. The built in GPS routing system and display in that qualcomm is a nice touch along with being able to get the lowest cost fuel in my route provided with a touch of a button. Oh, yeah. I would just love to go back to the old way of doing things.... NOT. And whether someone can track me or not.... a good lawyer will just about always be able to track down where you have been and wether you were where your log said you were if you are ever taken to court for something you did. They tend to be more motivated to find out these things than a government employee working for the FMCSA. And if they catch something that doesn't match up, there will be less freedom in that person's future than me and my qualsomm and elog.

Have nothing against anyone who chooses not to use this stuff. Doesn't affect me in the least. It does seem interesting though, how inflamed they get over those that do use this stuff, and feel the need to take jabs at them to pad their ego. Seems that they have deeper issues that would be best served through professional counseling. My major in college was not Psychology, so I can't help anyone work thru those issues.

I have met few drivers who like elogs. Most detest them. I have heard stories of how some have been harrassed to run when they are tired due to the driver having time left on his clock, whether his body was too tired or not. I have used qualcomm in the past. I recall one in which it was common for the qualcomm to beep letting me know that there was a message when I was in the middle of a good sleep. It was difficult to get my rest, at times, when I kept hearing the qualcomm beep. It would continue until I got out of my bunk and checked the message. If you own the equipment and want to install either or both of these pieces of equipment, that is your business. But, when you attempt to force me and the entire industry to install them in our trucks, then I do have a problem. I have never liked the idea of someone trying to spend my money for me. In talking to drivers I think that elogs can be more of a safety hazard than paper logs. Companies are more apt to push drivers when they know that they have hours left to run. And make no mistake about it, some of these carriers will push drivers to get every mile or squeeze every minute of time they have left when they use elogs.

I am on E-Logs. It's the third company I've been with that have been " forced" into using them because of a DOT audit.

What I like about them is not having to wonder if this is the time that my logbook won't hold the mustard. What I dislike about them for sure is being told when I have to hang it up for the day. Sometimes, everything is right and I would love to get some more miles done. Not happening.

With my latest company there is no "line 5" allowed. Truck rolling, you have to be on duty driving. You can't possibly plan every event that can happen every day. When I'm starting my day , having my coffee, I get to the POD in finer details. I leave some wiggle room for a "plan B" if "plan A" doesn't work out. Twice I have been stuck 30 miles from home with no time left. No choice but to take a break. On the same note though there have been a couple of times that because of issues beyond my control they,
" the company" have had to re-schedule a appointment.

Do I like them? No! They seem counter productive to me. But in my life it's their dance and if I want to participate with them I have to abide by their policies.

I don't see any Gov. agency making it a mandate. I DO see insurance companies making it a "have these and do it this way", or we will jack your rates up so high you won't stay in business long mandate.

I have nothing against people that want to use them either. However the whole, "We want EVERYONE on e-logs, to level the playing field mentality"... I do have a problem with. I see e-logs working just fine for some carriers, and little to nothing would have to change. However, I also see them not working at ALL in some other situations where multiple long wait times can and do occur daily or the load just has to get there for obvious reasons... (ie Fuel Hauling, Bull racks, certain Hopper trucks etc)

Some great points there mate, being stuck 30 miles from home happens here alot and sometimes for a weekend break which is 45 hours! It's silly!

I think you have a great point about insurance companies pushing these, over here they want cameras in the trucks.

Only point I don't agree with you is the govt won't make them mandatory, I think they will, pressure from insurance companies and the health and safety nazis are sure to bring them about as well as the realisation that it's harder to fiddle these and if it's easier catch you it's easier generate some nice revenue from you, fines here can be up to 25,000 dollars per truck,

You are right on another point too, they are counter productive ! They have done nothing here for safety, accident rates are as high as they ever were, rates have gotten worse, time away from home is longer, less money in your pocket and any notion of freedom has diminished when you're on the road

i try elogs. and lots of times i'm forced to spend the night making delivery or waiting for reload. becuase shippers and receivers work bankers hours. i'm 30 minutes shy of delivery but i have to take a 10.

i'd be lucky to make 100G. so i don't see 190G being possible.

i see drivers CONSTANTLY quitting becuase they aren't making any money. driving during the weekend when no one is open. doing there 34 during the week when everyone IS open.

the black box is fine for getting rid of paper. but it's not the only game in town. and that's not all it's used for.

as for getting messages. that's where the cell phone comes in. not only does it do phone calls. but it's a telegram machine in the form of text message. it's a computer in that it can surf the web and retreive emails. and it's a gps device. and can do your logs. cuz there's an app for that. most powerful tool a trucker can have these days.

and it can be turned off so it doesn't interrupt your sleep.

back in a previous time. you used to be able to split your day. there was absolutely nothing wrong with that system. it worked for everyone. we could drive and sleep accordingly without getting into trouble.

AND TRUCKERS WEREN'T DRIVING INTO DITCHES.
