You can rent one from Landstar to see if it will be worth spending the money before buying one. It would be much better to test the waters by renting first rather than spending money on a trailer that doesn't make any more revenue than a step deck. It would also give you an opportunity to talk with agents that do have heavy haul freight and check their rates.

There's plenty of work out there for OD steps. I've got some stuff I need BCO's for the week of May 14th. Check the other section for more information.

there is a natural Ebb and Flow to freight. Be mindful of that and it will be easier to choose when to run hard, and when to relax.

There are both financial and seasonal peak times to know when freight is going to move. Around holidays, expect the rates and amount of freight to both go down. People are trying to get that cherry load to get home for the holiday. Manufacturing also slows down around holidays as workforce demands often include a possible planned shut down during portions of the year. And don't forget the holiday consumer buying habits as well as just seasonal changes. Would you expect to really haul a bunch of christmas ornaments in Dec or July? Same with garden supplies. Do you haul them in Jan or May? Pay attention to what the stores are carrying and what times of the year they carry them
At the end of the quarters, expect freight to go up as managers try to reduce their inventory they have to count or maintain on their books.
And this doesn't even care WHAT carrier you work for.starsonwindow Thanks this.
