Some carriers pay for their owner operator's IFTA, permits and base plates. I am glad that money is not an issue. It is an issue with most people.

I am not sure what you are asking when you want to know where to start. Do you need help setting up the books? Federal requirements for a motor carrier? You can check the fmcsa website and find out what you need to do in order to be compliant as a motor carrier. Do you need assistance with the office side or motor carrier side? Do you need to understand what is needed in order to become a motor carrer?

I was hoping someone could explaine the above underlined in bold print for me, is the OP talking about truck insurance premium for the whole year? If so why do you have to have that paid in order to get your MC number, can't you start the policy with the portion that they request as a down to start the policy and proceed to your Applying for the MC number?

Depends on your credit score. Count on putting at least 2-3 months down, to get an insurance certificate issued and sent to FMCSA. You will NOT be granted operating authority without this insurance IN FORCE. Then add the balance of the insurance premium to your MONTHLY OPERATING EXPENSES.

Sure - if you have the extra $12K to pay the whole thing up front - why not?

So an active policy is all you need then to proceed, i got a little confused reading the original post about the insurance.

Is IFTA only needed for tractor trailers or for Straight Trucks too?

Pretty much - anything that involves commercial transport across state boundaries - depending on weight, number of axles and whether you tow a trailer.

IFTA is about "apportioning" fuel taxes between places where fuel is PURCHASED and where it's BURNED. IRP is about apportioning REGISTRATION FEE'S amongst the states you would like to operate.

Check JJKellers article on IFTA: http://www.jjkeller.com/webapp/wcs/...yClearinguptheConfusion-102010_10151_-1_10551
