You have no idea as to the percentages at LS. It all depends on how long you have been here, as to what contract and percentages are in it. I know a few that are still on the very old Teamster's Union contract, which involves a percentage to the truck and a percentage to the driver. Then there are some really old ones that are over 80%. My contract is from the late 90s and is 67% of 98% of the line haul, plus 100% of any fuel surcharges and any applicable accessorial percentages which range from 68% to 100%. My trailer is under a seperate contract and gets 8% of 98% of the linehaul, plus any applicable accessorials. If I had a reefer or other specialized trailer, the line haul percentage would be 10% of 98%, or higher.
The present contract is a staright 65% of 100% of the linehaul, plus 100% of any fuel sucharges, plus 65% to 100% of any applicable accessorials. Vans, flats and steps are at 7% of 100% of the linehaul charges, plus applicable accessorial charges.
Confusing, ain't it? Now you know why we don't compare truck pay, but gross pay to LS. That makes it less confusing.

Just want to address that last comment. Integrity and honesty aren't a slogan at Bill's company. They're words that are practically never spoken and just taken for granted by everyone involved. His company is different. There is none of that "well here's what the load pays and no you cannot see the rate confirmation" as is the illegal norm with 95% of the companies out there paying o/o on percentage. There are minimum standards to get leased on with his company in compliance with federal regs and even more stringent than Landstar and some of your better carriers out there with highly selective screening processes. In fact most companies are so large they simply can't take the time, as Bill does, to spend several hours with each and every prospective owner who is interested in leasing on. Bill has spoken with hundreds of drivers in the past year. Many of them don;t make the cut simply from small things they say in these casual conversations that clue Bill in that they are not the type of business oriented driver he wants at his company. The few who do make the cut get invited to orientation.

At some point in the near future all slots will be filled and then maybe more will open up in the longer term. For now it's spot. The future however is very bright and you're craazy if you think the long term plan doesn't include high dollar direct and lots of it. There is so much more opportunity at this company than anything out there and I'm grateful to be a part of it. Landstar is a great company I have nothing bad to say about them. It's just when I look at my situation in this business and where I'd like to go there are just waaay too many limitations imposed on me by a company like LS. I saw Bill and Lauren's vision of what could be a new Landstar and I bought into it. Every single driver I know of that is leased on here has this same excitement and motivation. Every single one. They were carefully screened and certain qualities were looked for.... I just couldnt let that comment go and wanted to set the record straight.

That of 98% was a big reason I decided against LS . I'm not on here to bash one from the other . I just talked to a SNI choice driver who absolutely loves it ..

Nothing is either wrong or right here it's merly ones own opinion

What's the name of Bill's company? Don't think I've seen the name posted anywhere? He definitley knows the ins and outs of trucking from what I've read. And I'm not even a trucker. But I have learned alot from his posts.

The present contract is 65% of 100% of the linehaul, to the tractor and 7% of 100% to a van, flat or step, more to a reefer or specialized trailer. They discontinued the 98% deal in the early 2000s.
Perhaps you should research it yourself, instead of relying on hearsay. http://www.lease2landstar.com/

As I've stated before, comparing percentages is fruitless.

Care to reveal where you get those stats, as the regs have stated for over 30 years that a company paying a lease truck on a percentage basis the freight bills must be presented on request? I have yet to have a problem seeing the freight bills, of any company that I ran on percentage.
