Went to Roehls school and stayed with them 14 months. All in all I didn't have too many problems with them and had a pretty good dispatcher in Brian T. out of Ellenwood. If they paid better I would have likely stayed with them but I decided to jump over to Crete for a pretty substantial pay raise. All in all I am getting roughly the same amount of miles but with much higher quality loads (more d/h on one or both ends) and better equipment. We're able to choose our own routing but still have the fuel stops planned. I rarely was bothered with much micro managing with Roehl and even less so with Crete thus far (11 months).
In my opinion if you have a good driving record and stay with Roehl past your first year then you are short changing your bank account.DrtyDiesel, notezbngrn71, ETCH5858 and 2 others Thank this. -

Different company's different options it all comes down to what is best for you and your family.
I ve been with roehl for over five years, done the stay out thing. That gets old real quick !
I've done regional for awhile, only a 34 hr reset every weekend, that got old also.
Currently 7/4 7/3 and make the money I need and get the home time that I want with full benifits and a nice profit sharing 401k program.
The longer I stay the bigger the profit sharing has been every year so far. As far as hand holding they really never have, I get my load
Assignment and do it, no contact with dsr unless there is a problem with load or equipment or I send them a update on the load.
Roehl is by no means perfect, but they are a good fit for me . I'm always looking for that perfect job, to you folks that have moved on good luck and happy safe miles !Rebelj1022, DFrnkln06, Bigdubber and 3 others Thank this. -
I thought I would go ahead and jump in this conversation. I quit Roehl on Memorial day and haven't regretted my decision since then. I have a job with Conway Frieght (LTL) and while it is harder work it is multiple times better than OTR. First year with Conway Frieght I will be making the same if not more than I would with Roehl. I drive a daycab which means when I'm off work I actually get to go home and sleep in my own bed! I get weekends and holidays off, Overtime after 40 hours on hourly pay, mileage pay (linehaul nights) is more than 40 cents/mile starting out. Only time you are on mileage pay is from the time you actually leave the terminal to the time you get to the FAC (destination terminal), and drop/hooks, fueling, fixing trailer/tractor is all hourly pay. If there is one thing I don't like about Conway it would be that it's not unionized but that is a very minor thing. If you want to actually make good money and be home then LTL is where you need to be. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Saying all this I am happy I was with Roehl for almost a year because I learned alot driving for them. I saw soo much scenery. The various driving conditions I have experienced while OTR is something that here around Omaha, NE has made me prepared for.
Mic when did you quit Roehl?bucksandducks, DrtyDiesel and Bigdubber Thank this. -
I left Roehl about a week ago....My last couple days were quite crappy with them...they tried to run me out to VA...(I bugged my FM til he relayed it off of me) then I got a load that picked up in Louisville going to Oak Creek...not too bad...but then they wanted to saddle me with a load that delivered past my No #### last day.....I didn't accept the preplan...cause the load wasn't even there yet and it was a relay...so I bobtailed home...cleaned out the truck went to marshfield and turned her in...
Now I am with a smaller company (150 or so trucks) where even the owner still drives (not to mention half of the office staff)....I get paid percentage...have a nice KW t660 that will do 68 on the floor...with a non neutered engine....(amazingly I still average 6.5 MPG on an 07 thats not cut back at all...just limited on the high end for speed.). and I can get home more...(Having minor difficulties since I started the week with them in a funky spot but its gonna work out here shortly)
And I brought Notez along just for the hell of it LOL>..notezbngrn71 Thanks this. -
I am still plugging away at it as well... New development this week, the papermill is down for maintenance, so I have a skateboard behind me. I forgot how much fun this was. The weather could be alittle cooler, but I have a brand new fontain Flatbed following me around, and I kind of like it. Percentage pay is the way to go, especially now as freight rates seem to be going up. Alot of the stuff we have be hauling has be $2 a mile or more plus fuel, and that makes a nice payday for me.
DrtyDiesel and Meltom Thank this. -
Still pulling the skateboard around. Ran into a Roehl trainer and student in Archbold Ohio the other day. The trainer was sitting in the AC in the truck while the student was out taking the tarps off. Who said slavery is dead??? Anyway when I went over to help the kid, he did get out, but just to talk to me, not help the guy. It was 90+ degrees with the wind blowing about 20 MPH. I know that the student was near the end of training, and needed to be able ot show that he could do the job himself, but then there is common sense. Anyway, home now, have to deliver in Buffalo in the morning.
Bigdubber Thanks this.
