Being swapped out is a regular occurance. That tells you something about the load planning and basic time frame that is being given to get it there on time with given weather conditions etc. It's always 75 degrees and sunny all throughout the country as far as the weather is concerned in that room down in MS. Let's face it; if you're late with a load, the end customer is pissed. Next time they need something delivered, they try another freight carrier. I would too. Trickles down to less miles for drivers and makes all kinds of sense.

That's really something to be called up about walking (not parking, mind you) to the Lion's Den. If you're not driving, on your own time, what you do that's not illegal or putting the company in a bad light is your business. Parking at a casino on your break, in a legal safe parking spot is fine. I would quit right then and there. You don't need to explain yourself at all. You put 5 years in, they decided to dick with your miles and then act as an over religious parent. I'm surprised you lasted this long.

OTOH, you can usually build a better rapport with your customers because you see the same ones over and over. -
Your frustration is understood and normal. It's right in the hand book, if you put a notice in etc, the company can and may decide to terminate you for doing that, or in some sort of language like that. If you're fired from a trucking company it doesn't look good on the DAC. If you walk away without putting in a notice, they claim it goes on your DAC (which wouldn't look good either). I can tell you, I cleaned my POS out without a notice and turned it at the terminal. No load abandonment etc. It's not on my DAC either. Just deliver your last load and head it back to the terminal. Sometimes a person has to strike first and be very hard and fast. One thing I would recommend is that if you have any $$ on your Comdata card, find out what your balance is, fuel it up one last time (so you don't have to pay the stupid fee), write and cash a Comcheck for that exact amount and clean out your account. As soon as you leave, they will (like a bolt of lightning) shut that card down and you won't be able to access YOUR OWN MONEY.
Don't get worked up over the dispatchers yelling and hanging up, that's par for the course. Agreed; the night dispatch is about as effective as a Commadore 64. I've seen goose turds down by the river that have more potential to effectively solve a problem before they do. How do you like calling road breakdown? That's a nice 48 minute wait while you listen to that stupid recording and music over and over and over... Calling night dispatch to open your fuel card is seen as a "preventable"...."you want us to do what?" "Open your fuel card, you know what that takes?"
Snakes and tattle tales? Yes. Pretty sure I know who that might be too, he runs down that way regulary and brags about all the drivers he's turned in to "higher ups".
I've been out East, run out of time; had to park behind a Bed Bath Beyond and shut down. Parked on off ramps, behind abandonded factories out East in NJ; where do you park out East? You've got such a large surplus of truck stops that are all filled up by 3:30 PM so don't even think about rolling in close to midnight, that's a waste of time. All of that is a product of poor load planners sending people into harms way with no over all objective. We as drivers cannot simply create a safe place to pull over and stop with such aggressive load planning and scheduling. It seems to be a set up for failure. So, it's just a matter of "hiding" in plain sight and hoping you get the hell out of there before all the cars fill things up in the AM and you can't get out. A shame, just a shame. So, if you had a chance to park close to a casino, GOOD DEAL. Many nights, I wished I was at a truck stop. The guy that ratted you out for walking over to the Lions Den probably has a collection of porno DVDS / mags in his truck that it is actually having an effect on his own fuel consumption. If he would simply lighten his own load (and clean his truck out a little by getting rid of all that crap), he might be 8 or 9 hundred lbs lighter on the drive and steer axles next time he weighs.
Shop staff? Don't leave anything of any value inside your truck while it's inside the shop. No more of an explanation is needed at this point.
Wish you well in your next move. I think you'll find your new place a total night and day difference. I know I have and am glad to be home on a daily basis making more money. Management at clem might need to spend a little less time at the Lions Den and get back to work or something. Those paychecks come from the drivers. Not the dispatchers and load planners who are still trying to do simple math on their fuzzy calculators.
Drive safe!!
