Hello all,
Can anyone (someone who actually experienced it) tell me about JB Hunt's orientation time?
I will finish my CDL training at Trans Tech/Charlotte diesel driving school next week. (If I pass the tests).
How long are you in orientation?
How long do you ride with a company trainer?
How much are you paid while at orientation?
Thanks

We don't train. You'll have to go get 6-12 months experience before being hired here. Once you have that...
Orientation is 2.5-3 days.
If hired for DCS division, you get a hotel room to yourself. All other pair up unless you pay to upgrade.
Wage during orientation is crap ($7.50/hr)
Lunch is provided
Day 1 - Paperwork + videos + drug testing + physical
Day 2 - Smith System
Day 3 - more classroom/videos until Day 1 results come back
I drove to Atlanta on my own dime so I could screw around after class. Was done at 4pm on Day 3 and drove back to Memphis. Met with my fleet manager the next day, and was in a truck under a short load that night. Been kicking donkey and taking names ever since.buckeyetrucker1976 Thanks this. -

i made the mistake & leased onto them back when i was an o/o. the single biggest mistake of my life. they charge o/o's for qualcom, occupational accident insurance (which if u ever file a claim, they will likely deny cause they're self insured & don't want to put out no money). i can give more reasons but u should get the picture. some co. drivers like it but i don't know

Haters gonna hate.
I hated the thought of working here in the beginning, but the job I applied for was perfect for me. I don't deal with JBH as a whole, usually...just my fleet of 12 drivers, our 2 F/M's, and our account customers.
I have yet to have even 1 bad experience here in the last 8 months. BUT...DCS division IS pretty much the VIP section of JBH.bert57nc Thanks this. -
I have a buddy who drives for DCS..loves it.
He says its nothing like people say..makes good money and home everyday.
Most big companies get a bad rap, look close and do some investigative work..all companies suck in some way. -
The Chicago intermodal is smooth going to. I thought wtf am i doing sitting in a jb orientation. But you never talk to and you get 2 full days homeanyone. When you set your eta your next load comes and 70% you drop hook... i like it

truck3r m1ke, thank you for answering the question.
Others, thank you for the replies even though they didn't actually answer the question.
I understand that I need to pass the skills test first, pretty sure I can pass.
I also fully understand that I will need to put in time with an OTR trainer after school, schools just prepare you for the tests with a minimal amount of road time, although we do have to drive on city streets, highway's, different traffic situations, etc.
I understand also that these forums will be full of negativity, some with bad experiences love to scream loud and long about them.
One of my instructors said that someone with a bad experience will tell anyone that will listen about it but those with a good experience won't run around telling everyone how much they like their job.
Some of the best advice I've gotten came from my brother. He has driven for Prime for 7 years and he advised me to go to the Pilot truckstop in Charlotte NC (exit 39) and talk to drivers at the fuel island.
I've done this and talked to drivers from Swift, Schneider, PAM, U.S. Express and others.
I explain to the drivers that I am in driving school and curious about the company they drive for.
I just ask if the company is good to drive for, how many miles they average, etc.
The answers I get from the drivers are much different from a lot of the opinions I see in the forums.
Please take it easy on us trainees out there, all of you started with zero experience just like us just starting out.
As I said, I appreciate all the replies, keep them coming.Joel Leland Thanks this. -

Those are the people you hear from the most.
That's why I talk JBH up the way I do, because people NEED to know that it is pretty darn nice here if you come in with the right attitude and all. I figured I'd hate it....just another big company with no integrity...and I couldn't have been more wrong. I'll drive for JBH until I'm ready to hang up the keys and retire (or die).
I'm trying to move out of Memphis....get back out west. Looked at and was approved with a few other big companies. Did more research and I just can't leave JBH. I found a lnother DCS account that will actually pay better, and will allow me to run/stay in areas that suit my tastes. Done deal, And it's awesome that I get to stay with the company.
So when you get some time under your booty, look into JBH. Hopefully you'll find it to be as complately satisfying as I and many others don
