US mail contractors

Mike, where do you get this information? I can tell you that in these two things, you are DEAD wrong.
First, the owner has not been in and out of prison. You are relying on incorrect information someone told you -- this is how rumors go. His FATHER, who used to own Midwest Transit, was in prison, NOT the owner of this company. Two separate companies.

Second: You only need ONE truck to get a contract...

I have been hauling Mail for 27 years. In this case, I know here of what I write. Do you? Instead of just getting on the Internet and posting rumors, untruths and libel, why not just say nothing. Or that "you heard," because what you have posted in this case is dead wrong. You are doing a disservice to your fellows who are looking for information.

I also drive for a contractor, and it's undoubtely the easiest job I had. $28.95/hr + benefits, drive maybe 500 miles a week but you spend more time loading and unloading, home every night and on weekends, no logs, no scalehouses, and no truckstops. The best benefit you get is the sense of pride moving US mail. Local driving isn't for everyone, but if you can handle it it's the best job you can have.

For your information Eagle Express is NOT IN ANY UNION. You truly need to get your facts straight before posting because you make yourself look ignorant or just an attention seeker!

Eagle Express is a good company! Yes they do have a hub based out of the Columbus Main PO. I would reccomend anyone that is a driver and searching for a driving job to get on with the MAIL.... There is GREAT $$$ in it.

Looking for Mail contractors truck driving job around San Diego and Orange county too. Are there any out there?

 

I hope some of these mail contractors get better drivers, lately the ones I've run across drive like they own the road. I'd rather my mail got there than be scattered all over the highway.

 

I drove for a mail contractor once, in a box truck, doing local delivery. As far as I knew, the USPS set the payrates for the drivers, and all of them made the same, $21.72/hr, I worked 20 hours a week, they were short shifts, like 5.5 hours, etc. and that was set in stone, and the contractors couldn't change that.

I wonder what the bids look like for the big trucks. I'm wondering if you could actually make some money doing that with a tractor, if that was the only thing that tractor did.

 

I'm interested in becoming a US Mail contractor, can I get some advice on how to go about it? I went on the USPS site and can't find any information.

I was just offered a mail hauling position with a local company. Swing shift, short runs, good money, but not too many hours. I am scheduled to start orientation this coming Tuesday with an OTR company. Not sure which I should do. From the sounds of it mail is where it's at though. Not sure how I'd like leaving the house at 3am, drive to the facility, work for 3 hours, then come back in the afternoon and do it all over again. Anyone else work a swing shift?

 

Where in central Florida can you look for these jobs. Ive seen Pat Solomon but it looks like they are not hiring. Must have low turnover. Im wondering if there are any other mail haulers in the central Florida area.
