Hey folks,
I hold a CDL with Hazmat and drove for TMC for about a month before I had to return home (trying to sell house, sick 4yr old child, wife in school, etc). Unfortunately, I cannot be away from home for more than a week at a time. I'm not qualified for Schneider's Kohls accound (dedicated) because I had a rear-end accident in January of '06. They said wait 6 mos and reapply. Well, I'll be doing something else by then, I'm not waiting around.
Are there any other companies that you know of that would hire a greenpea like myself with my limited driving experience for a dedicated or regional run?
Regional or Dedicated for a newbie?

I don't know if this will help you, but I will give you the info anyway. I am new to this forum, but I have 30 years experience, so i will give it to you, and if it violates the forum rules, I apologize.
I work for FedEx National LTL. They have a line haul terminal close to the San Bernadino airport. I know they are looking for drivers. They also have a line haul terminal in Charlotte, N.C. this is important because we (the line haul drivers) only run from terminal to terminal. The co. is 100% drop and hook at the terminals. You would be home every week for 2 days or more depending on what run you would be on.
For instance, my run is from Harrisburg, Pa. to Sacramento, Ca. I leave on Wed. at 2:00 a.m. and I return home on Sun. at around lunch time. This is the longest run out of the Harrisburg terminal, and it takes 4 1/2 days. There are shorter runs, some as short as 3 1/2 days. Here is a list of the pay/benefits from their latest ad;
We Offer:- $0.5580 CPM (Split)
- $21.60 Hourly
- 5 Day Schedule (2 days home)
- Terminal to terminal (100% drop & hook)
- Must be at least 23 years of age and meet DOT requirements
- 1 year verifiable OTR experience in a tractor-trailer within the last 3 years
- Valid Class A CDL with hazmat and doubles endorsements
- Good MVR
- Complete Medical, Dental, Vision, Prescription coverage
- Low cost insurance premiums
- Company paid Short-term and Long-term Disability
- Company paid Life Insurance
- 401K with company match
- Flex-spending account for medical and dependent care
- 2 Weeks Paid Vacation (in the first year)
- 9 Paid Holidays
- 6 Personal Days
- Employee Bonus Program
- Company Credit Association
- Tuition Assistance
I don't know what the phone number for the San Bernie terminal is. You have to ask locally for that. but make sure you ask for the FedEx National LTL number, not one of the others.
I can also tell you that the medical cost for your family would be really reasonable. I am single, but I believe it's less than $50 every other week for family medical/dental/eyeglass coverage.
You will need 1 years experience, so you might have to wait a bit, but you probably want to keep it in mind for the future.
Hope it helps. Happy trucking! "Keystone LazyMan" -

Your not going to believe this, I'm from Harrisburg originally. CD High School, class of '82.
That sounds like a great run! I will definitely be looking it up, at least for the future. Thanks again, and enjoy that ice this winter!

One thing to keep in mind is that Schneider has more than just Kohls for dedicated accounts. Im not sure what they all are. Maybe each dedicated acct has different requirements? All I know is that they hired me for a dedicated with a red light violation, speeding ticket, and schmucking a deer (red light: 3 years ago, the others within 24 hours).

Well, mine was a rear end, no damage back in Jan '06. I have to wait til Jan 08 to be eligible for SNL. I'd either grab the Kohl's or Sears account as both of those would get me home more often.
In the meantime, I think I found a local flatbed company running '02 freightshakers to Texas and back or the Oklahoma and back once a week. Pays 30% of load. They are ready to toss me out on the road immediately. Took a drug screen today, I just might get a load tomorrow.
