Why isn't Schneider on there?

 

Hey all,
This is a great thread subject, BUT it's gotten sooooo long that, IMO, it doesn't serve the purpose of informing us in a concise manner of which BAD companies to stay away from.
I am currently looking for a new company to work for and it would be very helpful if this valuable info was condensed.
Maybe we could start another thread wherein folks could just list the name of the company and maybe a link to the post here that gives the full complaint.
Just a thought

 

Here's a list of some companies that offer jobs in my area - found them on a trucker job-offering site. Any negative opinions about these companies is appreciated.

EDIT : I should clarify that - I don't necessarily welcome/invite negative OP's about these companies, but if there's any bad news about these carriers I'd like to know before I apply.

 

I haven't seen anything on this site about P.A.M or A.F.S (a subsidiary of P.A.M) anybody have any opinions about them.

I just changed careers from construction and was working for one of those small companies (no DAC). I moved out of thier "area" but when I took a week off to find some local work, I lost my seat and got black balled when I put them on my resume. Now, the local/regional companies where I live want 2-3 years experience, so where do I go next?

 

Sounds like you should head back to construction. You CAN get another trucking job, but why bother? The only companies you'll be able to hire on with are the ones you don't want to work for.

You're in the same boat I'm in. I myself will only work for the companies that aren't hiring. If a company IS advertising for help, I want no part of it. Talk about a paradox.

 

Being on the road for 46 days is a bit two long.Well I would have to say it sounds like your company was no better than the dump company I work for here in Tennessee.I have found in the past several years that trucking companies no longer respect drivers as a whole.There impression as I see it is if you don`t like it, its tuff find another job. I have been lied to and even been cursed at at the last job I held as a dump truck driver in Clarksville Tn.These people that own these companies should be taken out behind the wood shed and beat like there daddy should have done when they were growing up.The speak to help as if we are dogs.They think in general a truck driver is DUMB, Stupid and can`t find any better job.Well here`s one for the BOSS that thinks he`s above all.He must have had a hard life as a dummy.We truck drivers are the bread of this country and one day they as a whole will no longer be able to find help as they once did years ago.There is a old saying .Don`t let your attitude cost you . Sorry I babbled to much but I sympathize with you.

 

Sympathy will get you a place on the curb watching the trucks roll by.

The simple fact is, "a driver is just a number" and the only thing that matters is the freight from shipper to receiver in a timely manner.

Don't like it? Find a better job is you can. Fact is, all the great jobs of the past are no more. They have been down sized, ex communicated, outsourced, and what you see is what you get.

If Drivers never organize, they will never have anything, but then with todays world the way it is, most don't have a prayer anyway.

Sorry, but facts are facts. There are some good freight rates for a few on the road today as Owner Operators, but for the rest; great pay with no miles, poor pay with too many miles and no time off and the Federal and State Governments don't give two hoots or a haller for you as a human being.

I once spent five months on the road without seeing my house because of a company like you talk about. They did not give hoot if I ever got home, but they made the mistake of routing me past the terminal where my car was and I stopped in, unloaded all my belongings; left the keys in the ignition, bills in the seat, and never even bothered to fuel the refer, truck, or tell anyone I was going home.

Two weeks later, the boss phoned me to see if I was ready to go back out again. I frankly stated, I will phone you when I am ready and slammed the phone down. He never phoned back. I called for a truck a week later and got home every month for four to five days until I left the company.

Life isn't always fair, but then there were never any promises!

 

All you can do my friend is get a job where you can get one, even if that means leaving your back yard, and then hang on for a year before attempting to move. Once you complete two to three years, you can probably name your company; but that gives no guarantee of any real future.

I agree with Lucky, I am currently looking for a local position and it is hard to find any that pay anything more then subsistence wages. Yet they say we are professional drivers? Don't know of any professionals that after 15 years of experience are being offered $17 a hour.

The average in my area is around $16 to $17 a hour. With the cost of living in my area no one is going to support a family on that without a second income.
