I don't know where you are getting your information from but Prime is horrible for leasing. Lots of companies will run you hard, right into bankruptcy and the ground. Running hard is a term that really doesn't measure success, the statement at the end of the year with your net take home earnings measures success. I think you have beer goggles on when you look at leasing. That may come over as pissing on your party but too many drivers go into the black hole of leasing never to come out again, all because they didn't know what they didn't know. I hope it works out for ya.

I recently completed my lease with Stevens. During that time, there were ups and downs as with any company, however I made decent money (over $50,000 per year). In the second year of my lease I adjusted my home time and spent more time off.
I have years of experience in business and owned trucks before, so some of the common pitfalls and surprises of new lessors was not an issue for me.
I found Stevens lease to be straight forward and fair. Had I stayed on the road (I'm inside now) I would have purchased my truck at the lease end.
If you've never owned or leased before, running one with a company like Stevens is a great idea. You may find it's not your cup of tea and decide to be a company driver instead. Stevens allows this. There is an escape clause that allows you to walk away at any time for any reason. There are a fair amount of drivers that have done just that and continue to drive for Stevens as company drivers.
Keep in mind, as a lease driver, you are a small business person. It is up to you to develop that business to be more successful. If you have small children at home, think twice. As you will note in the Aviary posts, a new lease driver should plan to be away from home most of the first year. Limit your home time. This wasn't an issue for me since my youngest is 34.
I started as a line haul driver and after 4 years, took a local job to be home with my family as they grew up. If you have a family to consider, take that to mind.Emolson, TRKRSHONEY, Little John and 1 other person Thank this. -
