Trucking companies are finding out it's cheaper for others to haul their freight opposed to up keeping their trucks...

Do you think Walmart will do with away with the private fleet or scale it down for cheaper costs??

There are new tractors coming into the fleet as fast as they can be built. We have had up to 10 new tractors at time on the yard here in Apple Valley,CA since last year. With the exception of a few Internationals we have replaced our entire fleet at Apple with new tractors. The new tractors we dont use are distributed out to other DC's. One thing that has changed is we are now going to be replacing tractors at 600k not 500k which is the policy that has been in place for sometime.

Once again the movement of Walmart freight by contract carriers both over land and by rail is to cover inbound freight as well as consolidated freight headed from center points to DC's across the country. The private fleet is not a long haul operation so we rely on contractors to move that cross country freight. The increased movement of freight by contract carriers is a direct result of our continued growth. People that dont understand logistics think that if they see Swift pulling our equipment or JB loading rail cans that the company is phasing out private fleet operations. Actually we are hiring drivers at several DC's and like I said we continue to bring in tractors as fast as we can get them.

Sounds like to me you come on here to brag about your job. just because you drive for a company that have higher hireing standard does not makes you better then a swift driver that have 10 years exp,1 million safe miles, clean dac, clean mvr, clean background.

Depends on what schedule they are on. Some may make this, some make more... As with any company, no 2 drivers are going to make the same amount.

Why would I waste my time to come on here and brag, really driver my job speaks for itself. The difference between me and the swift driver you hold up as an example is easily explained. I put in 12 more years and more than twice the safe miles as the swift driver. Which regardless of what you think does without a doubt make me a "better" driver. Heres the deal when the swift driver gets to a higher level of experience,my level of experience maybe he could make it thru the hiring process here at Walmart.
