Passing on a bit of advice than was given me before CDL/training. A 12-year vet driver of Crete friend of mine said: "Get your CDL from a local co. (save expenses while in school), go to work for a co. like Swift, etc. who will train you---you won't like it there, nobody does!, get your 1 year experience, and then go out and get a REAL truck driving job!!" Just quoting a former Marine/driver vet....

FWIW, I got a student loan to go to an independent truck driving school back in 1988. Not sure if that'll fly anymore or not....it's just a thought

Im a newbie too.. never driven a real big rig before in my life. But I do know this. I just talked to CRE and if I was to pay cash for my training I can get trained for $1,500.00. Thats cheaper then any other company. Why I must ask myself.??? Thats half of what they are normally charging.

Now Im not saying I will do it, because you guys are scaring the hell out me about them. ! But I did get accepted.?

Whats is Newbie to do, it seems there is no good trucking company out there that will hire you as a beginner. So if you can save many thousands of dollars to get trained Im not sure that its not the right decision even if it is a lousy company by real drivers standards.

Oh and by the way I checked schnider too, they will charge you 18% interest on your training loan to them.?? Which will cost you $4,500.00 plus interst. Be leary of that one too I guess. Go to the bank and get a personnal loan if you can and always try and get a discount on the training cost. Pay in advance so you dont end up being a slave to them, no matter who it is.

Summation: Pay $1500.00 at CRE if you dont make it your only out $1,500.00 not $4,500.00 plus intrest at other driving mills.

Your post is almost identical to what I was thinking. When I called them yesterday they said they were running a special for $1500. So I thought it was great specially with their no-contract deal thrown in.

But in one day I have been able to dig up so much dirt about this company including court rulings, etc. that I don't know what to decide anymore.

I would have gone with schneider but they and Swift have a hiring freeze in the NY area. I will try going with CRE but just in case I am driving my car to the training site and bringing my own lunch money.

Why don't you fellows just open a window and throw that $1500. out. Better yet send it to me. You will be lucky to get $100. worth of REAL training with C R England. You will get a piece of paper saying you are licensed to drive a truck, but who do you think is going to hire you but CRE? Schneider may not pay the best, but you will learn how to operate a large truck properly so you don't kill yourself or someone else. There are a lot of other real carriers like Roehl, Millis, TMC etc who are a thousand times better than CR England. They are a disgrace not only to the trucking industry but to America. :biggrin_25513::biggrin_25510::biggrin_25521:

Your smilies tell the whole story!

I dropped CRE and I'm going with PAM.

CRE Leaving some poor guy to panhandle at the bus station for days just to find his way back home because he was disqualified (as posted on another thread) was more than I can take with this company.

I just got terminted because of an accident I had. I was not at fault but was still charged with the accident even before they got the police report. I was told they would investigate and would not be charged with anything until they got the police report which would take 2 weeks. I then got a qualcomm 3 hours later stating that the "investigation" they supposedly did proved that I was at fault. What happened was that I was on a one way with two lanes and got side swiped by a car that was passing me. I did everything to avoid it by almost going off the road. I was literally on the border of sand and concrete. However, I was asked why I did not get completely off. Ironically, I was told never to get off the road by my instructor in the miraloma, ca school because It sometimes resulted in the drivers death if not serious injury. In the end they let me go and now I have a 2,000 debt with their school. By the way, there were no injuries in the accident. I asked them if there was any way that I could stay and they said no because of the accident. Now I am looking for a job with any company but I dont have enough experience. Ironically, I cant get any because no one will hire a driver with a preventable accident. At least not the ones I have been applying with. Oh yeah, this accident happened while I was training and my trainer was supposed to be in the front with me but instead was in bed sleeping because thats all he would do. I told the review board that it was not fair I was getting canned because of something that was not my fault and that if maybe the trainer would have done his job and been in the front with me it might not have happened. But they said that it didnt matter anymore because I was no longer with them.

    Hey, Coastie

I plan on paying the 1900 dollar special up front. Did you do that? I mean there should be no obligation on my part if I pay for the school myself. How much driving did you get to do during the school? Thanks.

my husband and i both drive, we have already left prime and crst, now on to cr england. i met a gal her in n.ca, at the dmv the other day, and she told me that her husband has been driving for cr england for the past 17 years as a company/trainer driver and she told me, DO NOT LEASE A TRUCK with cr england, so advice taken, but i already knew that was out of the question for us, nice to have it confirmed though, she also said that cr england wasn't a bad co. to work for either, so anyway my hubbie and i will be co. team drivers for cr england and we shall see, hint hint, if we make money then i will stay on, if not bye bye, also, about prime=yuk=they promised me a female trainer and i ended up with sally crack head from FL. we drove for prime right out of our private co school, in keenesburg,co, and crst=issued us a brand new truck that kept breaking down, ###### up, also other drivers in the ok terminal yard had a free for all with the trailers, ####### mad house. i love driving and love the freedom, truck driving wages are great for us,but we would never ever lease a truck from any truck company, that is a no win way to the poor house!:yes2557:
