For Those Who Went From Paper Logs to Electronic

I have run e-logs and paper logs.

Sorry, but e-logs area nanny state control point plain and simple. It's a way for the ATA to stuff their control and put the benefit of the market on them and out of the O/O in their favor.

Just another point of big money pushing the government for what they want.

 

cuz it's the #1 driver oos violation. it's also the reason they came out in the first place.

logs are just like computers. most of this world don't know how to operate a computer. most drivers can't fill out a log properly.

what started out as a management and communication tool. has now been turned into a leash control


why do all you elogers assume us paper loggers are outlaws?

 

The point really is- it isn't the elog or paper, it's the hos regulations. All the e-log does is, is 100% correct logging. The result would be the same on paper logs if the driving were logging 100% correct. E-logs mean no more "creative" writing- no more and no less.

The current HOS however are a joke since a driver can't stop the clock. And it's crap- absolutely- to watch your hours disappear while sitting on a dock on the QC. Exactly same result with paper. These days, one almost has to log as legal as possible anyway- too many methods for determining if you were creative during an inspection. And with CSA now, why risk it and your job and your company's bottom line?

23 years out here and am now on e-logs. What I like about 'em is that driver and dispatch are on the same page- the company now has no excuse for wishful dispatching. What you see is what you get. Also, during most inspections, the cops don't even want to handle the thing- they break it, the bought it. I have been kicked out of potential inspections because I wasn't running paper. And it's one less thing to be concerned about.

Regarding my miles or pay-no change. As I said, the effect is from crappy regulations, not e-log. As for road speed and all that with e-log- company's problem, not mine. Can only do what I can do.

You state your a student. No offense but until you find out what our jobs are really llike you have no idea of what you will or will not do.

I personally prefer paperlogs, but our company no wants us to log the way we run, match time stamps, etc. SO if your actually running lrgal to start with I do not see much difference. Besides everything is headed that way just a matter of time. So if your a student that will not run electronic you might as well not finish school.

I made my company rent me a Motel 6 16 miles from home, out of hours on the 14 and had already used the 16 hour exemption. They were less than thrilled, but now when I tell them I can not run something dur to hours service they send me to the house, with a call in later for tomorrow.

Electronics should not make a big difference, and certainly will not make you more money, unless it helps dispatch to do a better job, which I would not hold my breath for.

 

16 miles from home. Paper would have got ya there. Fudging was part of being a trucker. Thats how i made bonus money back in the day. Got her their early couple xtra bucks. guess I did it right cause I always passed an inspection and did 41 yrs without a.ticket or accident. Maybe ill change my mind one day on this.

 

I do find that some don't see the difference between E-logs and HOS.
