I worked for TMC flatbed. Those black and chrome petes. One thing to remember if you chose to pursue a career with them. They run fast and hard. The drivers that is. Not those trucks.
The one I had maxed out about 58 mph. But they still want you to be on time. The promise of being home every weekend is not true. They will run you until you finally get tired and have to show how upset you are. Then they work with you for a couple weeks and then go back to same thing again. I'm not dogging the company but just beware of false promises. And, if you quit early, they take your pay. So you could work all week and find your paycheck absent several hundred of dollars. They got me plus minus some additional things that were just ridiculous. I'm just glad to be done with them. They don't like for anyone to quit and it shows in their attitude. I tried to be professional and leave on a positive note, they didn't show me the same. When I left, I returned all the property and they left me 600 miles away from home finding my own way back. So, just be careful and aware how they treat you.

you need to be one step ahead of management, because this IS a game. The trucking industry, I'm talking about. I once worked for Arrow trucking and decided to quit. Knowing I would get screwed out of some money if I quit with notice, I quit without notice, just after midnight when they loaded my Com data with my pay. Slipped by the house and unloaded the truck, then left the truck at their yard, which was only 40 miles away.

Not to defend TMC, but as for the speed of the trucks, they pay the fuel, so they can govern them to whatever speed they want to. If you have trouble with the delivery times, they must be able to reschedule or repower the load.
I see lots of people complain about scheduled home time. If you want predictability, you are in the wrong business. These trucking companies are in business to move freight. Getting you home on time isn't a priority for them. I know it sucks, but that is the way it is.Raiderfanatic and lonelyswmtrucker Thank this. -
Well if they say you will be home on weekends or something like that ..it should be their priority to get you there
drvrtech77, Leftlane101 and lonelyswmtrucker Thank this. -
There is a big difference between home every weekend and home most weekends, and like bigjoel said, if you are in this business and are not flexible, you are in for a long hard and disappointing career

They have to pay for all them trucks somehow why not thru the driver after all we are replaceable.

I do know they had advertised 46 out 52 weekends a year home..whether that's changed or not I don't know.lonelyswmtrucker Thanks this. -
When I was there, the trucks speed cap was set by the engine, the more you idled and/or the worse the fuel economy, the slower you'd run to a point. One trip in a headwind, heavy, to Denver and you could expect a reduced speed for a day or so back out until your avg recovered.
But I had NO issues with home time living in Southern OK. But anyone who expects to be home EVERY Friday at 4:30PM and is not flexible is not being fair to himself or the carrier. A lot has to do with where home is. -
does anyone else find the OP's user name amusing, considering the main gripes in his post.
