Yes, I know I'm spoiled. But I have a question about longer home-times.

Which school are you going to? I went to the Sage school in Yadkinville and also live in Winston-Salem. If you aren't opposed to Hazmat tanker you might want to check out Superior Carriers out of High Point. I never have a problem taking a few extra days home if I want them.

i had no idea that you could do that. 21/5 with my own truck sounds pretty great to me. some other places seem to be 3 days off maximum even if you stay out forever. thank you very much!

about the pay fluctuating, i wouldn't mind that so much if the average over time was high enough for me. and about slip seating, i guess i was just hoping i'd get with a good group that treated the truck better. but if i can get my own truck and do 14/4 or 21/5 that could work thank you!

i'm going to DCCC in mocksville. i am not sure about hazmat tanker. i did get my tanker endorsement on my permit, but no hazmat yet. i was thinking that as a brand new unexperienced driver i should drive a while before i venture into tanker and hazmat.

but i'll look into superior, thanks for the info!

Tankers aren't for everyone. If you aren't an attention to detail person or want to drive the truck like a sports car stay away from hazmat. That said less than 25% of the loads I pull are hazmat. Other terminals that percentage will be higher. I just couldn't see working for .34 cpm when I could make .43 and be paid hourly on top of that for wait time at shippers and receivers. A 2000 mile week for us is a $1000 check on average.

I drove the 7/7 with Roehl for about a year and was late home on occasion 1 day which I didn't care about but it shorted the other driver a days pay. My miles were also about 3000 or so every week at .41/mile I had no complaint.
Both SNI and Roehl have the 7/7 fleet. If you do the week on then work a part time job a couple of the days during your week off it works out pretty good and the best thing for me was that I never got burned out driving. I left after a major dispute with my DM and also the mill was closing down that we hauled out of so I figured the terminal was not far behind and I was correct in that.

A lot of drivers are interested in this program because it is pretty good. Less and less people want to be gone 4-5 weeks at a time like I was when I started and was pretty standard stuff. Roehl hit a homerun with this one, imho.

well, first of all i didn't say i wanted the 7/7 schedule. i was more interested in the 14/7 option. but in another post i see you're on a 10/4 schedule yourself. my whole point was i didn't want to work a 7/1 or even 6/2 schedule. when i get home, i want to enjoy my home time. i want to sit on my couch and watch tv. i want to cook on a real stove. i want to drive my '73 TR-6 on the blue ridge parkway for the afternoon. yes, i'm spoiled with my previous schedule, but a few days off after running 10, 14, or 21 days shouldn't be too much to expect.

You could try but also the nearest dropyard to you is darlington SC. So you'd have to drive there and back. I did it to Jacksonville but some people mind it. Plus I don't have to leave the night b4 I'm scheduled out I go the day of. You can switch from hometime to national, or van to flatbed whatever.
And who knows who u share the truck with, how they are, what they drive like or what they do in the truck. One guy quit and I met his replacement 8 months in by chance in the other truck and the other guy I never met. I figured he was tall by the seat being super high and lazy BC he left notes always what was wrong with the truck. He bent body panels too. The fleet trucks will get replaced like the rest of the fleet soon anyway just my experience. Might luck out and slip into 2 new trucks.
