It sounds like you are a L/O? And is the $1800 after taxes and insurance for the family? Insurance is a huge expense for a trucker alone, not including the family. I have a wife and 3 kids that I would like to have some basic insurance on at least.....I have been reading some blogs from some L/O and they are making on average about $1200 a week after the truck payment and fuel and all expenses, but that is not including their taxes and health insurance....take that out and you are down at least $300 more per week.
Is this business really that bad??

I think leasing is a good idea for a single guy like yourself that can run a lot and end up with a newer truck that is HIS, if you didn't get a reasonable buyout amount at the end of the lease it wouldn't be worth it i don't think.
I wish you the best of luck, and hopefully in a few short years you will be a successful O/O! -

Ask yourself this,if truck driving is really that bad then why don't they just get out.People complain dailey. That's the way trk driving is.I have done my fair share of complaining. It's all what you make of itYou're not going to get rich.More people then not look at the money side to trucking because websites and recruiters paint a pretty picture and drivers soon find out that's not the case. You have to look at trucking differently then money if you choose this carreer.Do you like to travel and see alot of beautiful sites. You meet alot of people.Write down the pros and cons to trucking from what you have read and see what one outweighs the other then decide if this is what you really want to do.If you're looking on the money side then I suggest finding a different line of work.

I love what I do!...I paid some dues and spent a yr OTR then the next year doing regional for same company until I found a company 7 miles from my home(previous company was 125 miles from home and only allowed me to get home on weekends after I was done OTR) driving tankers, flatbeds and vans making great money and I'm home every night now!...I drive a 2000 Freightliner Classic with 1.200,000+ miles on it and it runs great!!!!!!!
