So are you disabled or not, and if so what exactly might the disability be?
I mean if you're that vague here in an anonymous forum, can you see why you might be a "red flag" case with prospective employers?

Why even make a point of having a "past disability" if you're no longer disabled?
I think your disability might be knowing how to communicate properly, because I'm confused and if I'm confused imagine how the various carriers you've applied to must feel.

Have you read the the whole thread? He is no longer disabled and has clearance from the doctor with no restrictions. He told us what the dissability was and unfortunately he does have to disclose the time of his dissability since it is a part of his work history.
I have the same in my history. I was disabled due to a work injury and had two cervical fusions. I have to show the dissability since it is less than ten years. I was turned down by a flat bed company due to it since I did not have the proper paper work for the back to work release. We will always be viewed as an risk of re-injuring ourselves.
Like several other guys have said before check into smaller compaines and go there in person. That makes a big difference showing up in person and also look professional and have a go getter attitude.

    Good luck out there.

Sorry, he never said what the disability was, only that he had operations on his hip, and the recovery time was long.
Which hip? The left? Pumping a clutch in a traffic jam might be an issue. It doesn't help that the disability was caused by an auto accident, regardless of fault. That's all red flag stuff to a carrier.

I agree scheduling an appointment to meet in person might mean all the difference, provided he gives good personality, gives a capable apprearance, healthy look. On paper the word "disability" does not translate well, especially in a job that requires some physical labor and endurance.

I had Avascular necrosis, where the ball of my hip died from cortisone shots after the wreck. They exposed the blood vessels on the ball of my hip so it could heal itself. The hip surgery was my left but it is fully healed!! I did not have a total hip because it was not necessary.I could out run 99% of the truckers on the road today!! I had to stay off the hip for it to heal for almost a year and had to rebuild those muscles because I was not using that leg for so long.I can tell you this,I ride a bike an average of 18 miles everyday and lift weights.I have been for 3 years to get back in shape.I am 39 now and i'm in a lot better shape now than when I was in High School and playing sports.I just hate this for the company's that are passing me up because I know that I would be a more dependable employee than most people that went to the same driving school as me.:biggrin_25519:

This all boils down to discrimination because I could not work when I was disabled!! It's just wrong. I am being treated just like a felon!

You think not knowing how to communicate is my disability or is it your disability to not read the whole post?

CondoCruiser - I never could understand why trucking companies needed such a long work history - Thank you for that reason

Keep trying places. I was disabled for three years with no work and was able to find a job even with a criminal history. A shattered hip was the least of my injuries in that accident so it was nothing light.

The only thing I can see is you say it happened in Feb '07 but it took only three years to heal completely. There's still 2 1/2 years at this point that's not disability. Have you worked at all during that? That might be the problem.

They were keeping me on disability to make sure that everything healed properly.I could actually stay on disability if I wanted ,but I want to work!! I'm not one to milk the system and it was my choice to come off SSDI. I could be sorry like a lot of people and draw forever but that is not who I am.
