I hear you on wanting to work. I didn't even apply for SSDI as we could get by, not by much, but could when I was hurt. You're just going to have to keep trying. Make sure you call every company up after sending an app in. Don't rely on them to call you. I personally made the mistake of thinking if they didn't call me they didn't want me. Someone will probably take you eventually. I went through the same crap and had more going against me so I know how it feels. Took me nearly three months after school to get hired.

Don't let them get you down. I know what it is like to be put in the same crowd that do not want to work. My employer and their private insurance pulled every dirty trick on me. I lost about everything I had. Sold my old cars, boat and house to survive. In the end it worked out. I got the proper care, was put back together and I do not have to worry that one wrong move would turn me into a vegetable operating a scooter with my nose.
You have your license, get a recent copy of your driving record and start hitting the road. I would go door to door and ask to speak to somebody in person. It is about making a connection with somebody not them just looking at a piece of paper application. If they see and talk to a guy that looks healthy and walks around without a limp it will make more of a lasting impression than the application. My girl friend is PA and works in spine and deals with the crowd that does not want to work on a daily basis and it is really hard not be jaded.
Go out and talk to people, network and you will find a job you did not dream of finding right out of school. Will it be easy probably not, but you already shown that the easy road is not the one you travel anyway. Go get them.

I just hate that i'm probably going to have to start with a bottom feeder company! I am going to keep plugging away at this and I'm sure it will pay off in the end.I am also trying to see about a charter bus company.I'm looking at this in a positive way!Maybe it is a blessing that most of these companies turned me down, lol

I was wondering after looking at your posts if your driving school can go to bat for you? The school that I'm going with was chosen largely on the basis of the owner's connections in the industry and his promise to help his students with job placement, even a year down the road.

The school I attended is one of the top schools in Alabama. They have around 30 companies that goes through them. They say that they are trying to help me, but I'm starting to wonder if they really don't care since I already paid them.Central Ref.,HO Wolding,TMC,and McElroy are some of the companies that help sponsor the school just to name a few. They all threw my app out but will not give me a reason.I asked them if they could tell me why I was declined so I could fix the problem but they said they don't have to disclose that info.Sounds like a cover up to me!! The past disability is the reason but I just wanted to see what they would say.The recruiter at Central Ref. was the only person that told me anything. He said it's because I don't have 12 months verifiable work history in the past three years. How could that apply to someone that could not work and that was on SSDI?? Just a loop hole so they don't look like they are discriminating.

I don't think it's a cover up. You are going to hear that a LOT in this business. You have no clear evidence that your disability is the reason so I would be very careful where you tread with this case. You try to take that to court and you could possibly lose your kiester. No verifiable work history in the past 12 months is a VALID reason to be rejected from a trucking company. This is a completely different world than you are used to. Those gaps have to be filled, period. No company is going to allow that to be sitting on their record. The FEDS are holding them to that.

Were I you, I would get a job at Subway, your local convenience story, grocery store, janitorial service, ANYthing while you continue to apply to other companies. It will help your case much more and look much better on your application. When I was in corporate he11, I rejected MANY resume's from people who hadn't worked in the past year in favor of those who did SOMEthing, even working way below their qualifications. Just get on a payroll.... ANY payroll, and keep plugging away.

I am not so sure on that work history deal being the cause. Reason is my other half was out of work almost 3 1/2 years due to this wonderful economy. He ended up in this line of work due to his line ended up being flooded. He had several offers after he got out of school.
So I am not thinking it is work history too much, maybe, but doubtful. I wish you luck and wish you could prove it as well.

Bama, would you consider moving? I'm just thinking there might be a smaller company that would be more willing to consider you but you would have to live where they go.

Another thing that has been hinted at is the companies may be fearful that since you have a previous injury, you may be more likely to suffer a work injury and become a worker's comp case for them.

Thanks for the info.I'm not planning on filing any lawsuits against any company.I just wanted some input from others on their opinions.I finally got one call from C.R. England but I think I will pass.I have been told by numerous drivers that I should not consider them. What do you think?
