I'm not sure whether it shows on your actual logs. I think it's a second report that's generated for internal use. You can never be sure that it's been done, until you've been questioned about it.
The second.... 10 minutes over on my 14.
The law states a driver can use the truck for "personal" transportation (for a reasonable distance) if he/she has been relieved of duty and not under a load.
Company policy states a driver must take a 10 break, regardless of his/her location and duty status. The company considers you to be under their command and control, therefore you are required to take that 10 break, even if you're only 2 blocks from your house. Without pay.
The LAW varies from state to state. But many require that a person be paid for ANY time an employee is required by a company to comply with meetings, training, etc, etc. Schneider feels compelled to comply with this only during training periods and drug test.
Simply put. They PAY me, or I go home during my "company authorized" home time.
That said, I'm not going to drive 20-30 miles to get to a terminal. But neither am I going to park, 2 block or 2 miles from the terminal. And take a 10 hour break.

The 30 minute drop and hook, becomes a 5 hour unload...etc.
Otherwise, I really like them. -

You can not be under dispatch, or a load. You are limited in the distance traveled. And that distance will vary depending on the mood of the officer who questions you during a stop. 99.999% of the time, you're okay.
Schneider O/O have another "Duty Status" on their Qualcomm, that company drivers do not have access to. Just for this purpose.
However, regardless of what the law says. Schneider will hold you to their standards. How they penalize you for breaking said policy, is entirely up to them. -
dancnoone Thanks this.

I forgot who was just in a similar situation here, and am too lazy to go back and see, but I'm the "back up driver" for a load here soon. I was first given a message about a critical load I was pre-assigned, and how I needed full hours for it, and a 3 way conference call. I look at my pre-assignment, and it's a load being PU and DP at the same address. I messaged in a message that basically said, in a nutshell, "WTF?". Turns out I just sit there from my arrival time until the company says I can go, and that I need to contact my DBL about how I get paid for these shenanigans (Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy #### on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?).
Weird.
