Pic of one of my tandem tires. I already wrote it up twice... Should I refuse the truck and get this one checked out? Or do yall think it is still good to drive on for awhile longer? Thanks for any response.

I can't measure the tread depth in the picture, so you're going to have to do that yourself...it really isn't all that difficult. Get out your tire tread depth gauge...if you don't have one, you can buy one for around $1 or $2. If the tread depth measures less than 2/32", the tire needs to be replaced. If the tread depth is at least 2/32", then it can stay on until it is less than 2/32".

Depth must be measured at the lowest point. That's what dot will do.

You could retread it. The depth is between 0-1 at the lowest point, which is the middle. I don't recommend retreads, but if you are trying to save a buck, that would be the least expensive way to go.

The question is should you refuse it. NO. What you should do is figure out if you feel safe. If you don't then write it up. If you have written it up, then you take your write up to the safety committee and ask them what to do. You must always come off like you are looking to be helpful. If Safety refuses to get you a new tire, ask for them to sign your inspection report. There are eight tires on the tandem. One can blow and you will be okay.

I drove for ACT locally. I had bad tires on the tandems. I wrote them up for six months. Never changed them, never had problem with them. Always remember you have them on and braking will be more difficult in wet conditions. But refusing could get you fired. Let them make the call. Say sure, if you think that they are safe, I will drive them. Just sign here please. Your tires will get changed that way.

    ah the student tire expert
and it was clearly stated to be tandem tire do you have tandem steers??????????
doesnt look like a steer tire does it??????

If you have to ask you already know it is replace time
company truck you dont need to worry what tire they will put on
and look to the left hand column and consider the source of the advice

If that was my steer tire, I would definitively ground the truck until it was replaced. I was just wondering since it is an inside tandem on passenger side. Thanks for the responses. I will prolly get it checked out again. Wouldn't take them too long to get it replaced.

If they don't want to change it make them.Drive a nail through a 2X4 and stab it in the sidewall so they can't repair it.

You wrote it up, but did you get ahold of the breakdown department and tell them the tire is below min depth? They would send you to a shop where they would measure it and then call your breakdown and tell then it needs replacing.
