Not feeling really great about it either. I missed 6th gear while trying to downshift out of 7th, coasted more than 60ft... instant fail. Looking for a job, so I can have some sort of income until I can test again.

The weird thing is, I drive beautifully when I am in the truck with the trainers at school. I passed my 100 ft straight back and alley dock, no problem. But when the examiner hops in with me, my nerves cause me to screw up like this. Any advice on how to keep your nerves in check?

Many people have test anxiety. The way I overcame mine is simply act like the instructor/examiner is not even there. I know easier said than done, but it works, I have been an instructor and test examiner for years, not in a truck but in the Army, and I can tell you, test anxiety is the same no matter where you are.
Hang in there, you will make it. When I went through Road Master, one of the other students had a tough time passing his driving exam, finally he followed my advice, forgot about the examiner and passed with one error on his PTI.

if you miss a gear down shifting do not coast, your right you need to get it back in higher gear then try again, if you coast you fail and if you hit wrong gear you keep on trucking..

Try this it worked for me-face the fact that you cannot allow yourself to become nervous. After all, you have a HUGE responsiblity while driving. Just think of the examiner as a trainee you are instructing. You need to show this person the correct way to handle the truck. Would you want a nervous individual showing you how to drive? I think not. Remember you are in control and just relax. You will pass.

someone else said it if you have to grind it. Rev the He-- out of it and push it in. its only one point and not an instant fail ! I know it hurts to do it, but the outcome is better

It's funny you mentioned that. The examiner did mention that I was downshifting "too much." I did it because I was afraid of stalling the truck (another way to auto-fail) while approaching a stop sign in 7th gear. I psyched myself out. I caused an entirely new problem, while trying to overcompensate to avoid stalling the truck.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

Don't feel bad...we're doing a road-test ( as a 3rd party delivery service ( for a MAJOR Oil co ). We were told today we MUST DOUBLE-CLUTCH. If you've ever seen gears on a big-rig trans.....double clutching might help your nerves...but does absolutely nothing to match road-speed w/ gear ratios. Yer pickup...yeah....big truck??? LOL.
