Why so many pre-hires?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering....Why is it a good idea to get as many pre-hires as possible? Wouldn't it benefit me better to kind of narrow my choices down to 3 or so companies I feel would be a good fit for me? Also, hypothetically speaking, if I were to go to orientation with Schneider and things didn't work out for some reason, excluding failed drug test or physical, would I be able to start from scratch with one of the other companies that gave me a pre-hire right away? If someone fails the road test, for reasons other than being in an accident, will they work with you and give you another shot or are you done with said company? Thanks to everyone for your help as I continue to look into a career in trucking!

I agree OP I actually didn't get any pre hires and when my company recruiter came to the classroom I just had a feeling that I would be hired by them and another recruiter contacted me even while I was still sitting in the classroom. I was the only one they contacted even though others in my class filled out applications and I was on the bus to their facility immediately after graduation. My whole life changed from that point on

They just want to find out if anyone wants to hire you. :)

Depends who you are applying to. If you are filling out apps for mega-carriers then yes you are going to get lots of pre-hires. If you are more selective and are aiming for the smaller companies then you won't need to fill out all those apps and won't get all those pre-hires. If its just insurance you are looking for or guarantees of a job then go ahead and fill out those mass company apps.

If you will notice a lot of those pre-hire apps are pretty vague and though they will send you a letter of pre-hire that doesn't necessarily mean you are actually qualified. Its kind of like those quick credit apps you fill out for buying a car on the internet. Its pretty much just a guide to see if you somewhat qualify.

Start applying for non driving jobs, unless of course you're one of those people who use constant rejection as a tool of self motivation...

Not only are you on the younger side of young, but here in California 15 over is a misdemeanor offense that'll stay on your CDLMVR for 65 years! Here's an idea; Don't speed. Not only does it take lives, but it also kills careers. And someday, if you have kids and a wife to provide for and come home to, you'll pray for the former when you're hit with the latter...

I don't know what the value of a Pre-hire letter is. It gives you options but you had those options before and without a pre-hire. You are not hired until after you go to orientation with a company anyway. So what good is it? Is it like a gold star the teachers give you when you color between the lines?

You are starting out in a business. No matter what anyone thinks as a truck driver you are self-employed. You decide how to run the truck. They can try to watch you on the Qualcomm camera but a piece of tape handles that. What matters is the bottom line. If you get a letter, does it contain anything but empty promises. Or is it just a note from a company that really just wants to get into your pants.
