I'm lucky. YRC is only 20 miles away from me. But as one of the senior guys said, all good jobs are far away now, no such thing as good jobs close by any more

I got a call back from them one time but declined the follow-up since I'd started with another company just prior so the timing was bad. Kinda wished I'd gotten in with them sometimes because their contract wage is pretty high...like almost $25/hr at the barn around here. But, you start off only making a percentage of the contract wage which is like 70 or 75% and work your way up to top pay over the course of a couple years. And you're probably going to be working the silly shifts for a long time until you get a bid. Luckily I live in a city with a ton of freight companies all crammed close together who are usually always screaming for drivers, especially during spring and summer, so I didn't find the extra board at ABF all that appealing even though they are one of the big guys in town.

driverjoe Thanks this. -
I will have to say that the extra board isn't for everybody. I sure don't care for it. That's the only real gripe I have. Pay could always be better but it could also be worse.

One thing to watch out for is they will hire during busy times then layoff when it slows down.

If you get a chance to get on at abf jump on it.I worked for them as a casuel dock worker in ohio before i got my cdl i was living by the phone yea it does get old everyday i regret not sticking out there. Now i am living in florida hell i made more an hour as casuel dock worker at abf than i do know with a cdl .Looked at getting on down in florida pretty much impossable as anybody knows florida is a bad state for good truck driveing jobs might have to go back to ohio.I give a tip make sure you do not leave anything off your job application with abf they will find out abf has one of the most extensive back ground checks they check everthing .

Yea they do check everything, I remember from my interview I had... They had no problem with me but I declined the job respectively. Too far for me to be on extra board

Wouldn't hire me at the time. Had to many tickets back then. I tried to get on twice with them.
