Cummins SCR totally sucks. Every truck I see with ISX15 are sold at 100,000 miles. Detroit SCR engine better than Cummins. Detriot DD15 pulls better than Maxxforce. Better engine brakes, turbo charger, and good fuel mileage. With DEF, it reduces active regen. My friend drive 2012 freightliner cascadia with DD15. Only problem is shaky closet door. I had a solution, stuff with paper. I heard Detroit made inspection on epa07 dd15 with 750,000 miles. No leaks, no dents, and no wear.

I am not saying the Detroit is a bad engine. I think it is a very fine engine. I only wished Kenworth and Peterbilt offered it. However compared to the Volvo and Maxxforce engines, I'll take a cummins anyday. More relaible though the Volvo's are becoming more relaible every year. In the end, every engine along with technology needs the bugs worked out them. Detroit seems to have done this better than others.

If I could get a new w900L with a DD16 that would be awesome.

    Nope just an enthusiast.

The plus side to all of the emissions regs is that OEMs have developed all of the tools to make efficient power. Things like High Pressure Common Rail injection with piezo injectors firing up to 7 times per injection at 30,000+psi versus the systems of yesteryear running much much less pressure and one big bang. using multiple variable geometry turbochargers to beat the physics of a turbo and eliminate lag and provide instant power and the precise amount of boost needed to maximize the fuel combustion. The newest breed of engines are very advanced and could be the most efficient and most reliable engines every produced if the emissions equipment wasnt holding them back.

What does all of this mean? Now that the EPA has gotten their way and does not have any stricter plans on paper, OEM's can take a breather and look at how to make these systems less invasive and more efficient. They've literally been running around with their heads cut off. I think thats why CAT got out for now. They are a strict company that relies on organization and sustainable planning. The speed of the emissions regs would have taken too much additional man power and even then it was still too much.

I hear so many people wanting pre-egr motors in their gliders for the best fuel economy when some of the best fuel economy is available in a new engine with better tuning and the emissions equipment stripped. However this is less economical so for now it makes more sense to either buy a new truck with a new engine or build a glider with an old one.

I agree. Although some people on here preach to you about the whole emissions deletes, and how your gonna get caught and blah blah. I say the risk is worth the return. A free breathing engine with the efficiency today would be great. Imagine a cummins or a DD16 at 600hp and have the egr and dpf removed. You would most likely see an increase of horsepower and torque to the rear wheels just from that, not to mention the fuel economy increase.

We are a mayor Recycling Company ( 2 companies united to do the recycling ) Parent company got new MACK TRUCKS with MP-7 engines while we got 2 INTERNATIONAL with MaxxForce 9. I get 2.7 MPG with the MaxxForce Advanced EGR and the MACK MP-7 gets 5.8 MPG. My Advanced EGR runs hotter at 215-230 degrees while the SCR MP-7 keeps cool and steady at 170 degrees.

To much issues with Advanced EGR Maxxforce engines, my exhaust stack is corroded and dirty while the MACK exhaust stack is clean on the inside. Turns out SCR is really scrubbing the emmissions wile Advanced EGR is having to many issues.

    Macks are doing very well.

Now that the MAXXIPILLAR is dead for ever ( MAXXFORCE 15 will no longer be produced ) I do wish CATERPILLAR makes up its mind because no MAXXFORCE 15 means no CATERPILLAR CT-15. I hope CATERPILLAR do save the C-15 engine, only problem is that what remains of the C-15 engine is now intelectual property of NAVISTAR because CATERPILLAR sold it to them so geting it back will be no easy task. I hope to see a C-15 re-launch with modern SCR system.

Yes you would see a FE gain, but if they tune the engine to still make 600 hp then it will still be the same. They do tend to run better than an egr engine.
