No APU's on crst company trucks.

I would not let them force you into driving with another student, I've seen too many in the ditch on 80.

    Just my 2 cents.

Have you checked landspan if you want to team? I don't remember if they hire students though.

The 6,000-7,000 mile average the previous poster mention is higher than I've heard from teams I've talked to.

Pretty much all any 4 week or less school does is get you to pass the test. Honestly in 4 weeks there isn't time for much beyond that. Starting with a company with a good training program where you will actually learn to drive.

I graduated from Waterloos school. It makes Kirkwood look like amateur hour. Kirkwood students average 2-3 hrs drive time the entire training. We averaged 7-8 hrs + A DAY while at Hawkeye. I highly reccomend taking Waterloo if they are offering

Hawkeye Community College has a full on-site course for off road practice. And (since I live in the area) from what I see, they use decent equipment to train you in---ALL the basic equipment; dry vans, reefers, and flatbed....so you get trained on refrigerated unit operations and flatbed securement as well.
Looks like pleanty of time training on the roads too, because they are always in my way (LOL!).

I believe it is a 3 MONTH program....not 3 weeks like some money hungry mills.
You can read about them here: http://www.hawkeyecollege.edu/acade...ving-and-transportation-training/default.aspx

Only thing I can not figure out is WHY ANYONE WOULD DRIVE FOR CEDAR RAPIDS STEEL TRANSPORT (CRST).....but I guess that is your business. If you go to a school as good as Hawkeye, you'd certainly have much, much better choices in companies..........MUCH.

P.S.- Yes I understand it would be CRST that is putting a Florida boy through an Iowa school....just making a point.

CRST hasn't given me any reason to not trust them, yet. I'm sure they will sooner or later. But until they do, I've got no reason to badmouth them. HCC has put together a three week course for CRST. Its true they have that three month program as well. However, the majority of that time is spent with your new company. Its a workaround they came up with to be able to accept student loans.

right now, the only things I don't like about crst is the fact there a team driving company only, which I have always been one who does not like to depend on a stranger driving, and even if they are good drivers, I don't want to be rudely awaken to a sudden stop or even worse, an accident because of another stupid driver. and the other thing is the 0.22 mi. to low for me, esp. being team driving. That would be an equivilent to .011 mi. in my book at least. I guess the only up side about the pay is that you are getting payed while you sleep too. If you are even able to go to sleep while the truck is moving. No, I prefer going solo and so far , I think Stevens Transport is the better company as far as training goes and the pay is a little better too.
