I drove a class B local delivery truck for 12 years, delivering between 60 and 70 stops a day. It was dealing with customer issues, it was dealing with customer complaints and trying to resolve them or at least report them back to supervisors in addition to just deliveries. That company went under a few years ago.
Last week I went for a local Class B delivery job, delivering between 60 and 80 stops. You had to again deal with customer complaints, try to resolve them or at least report them to supervisors at the end of the day.
Now would you not say "Hey perfect fit, sign him up"? Well I was rejected, and I know why. She asked my salary at that other company, I said it was pretty good because it was a labor union covered job. She then turned on me, started asking me labor union questions, peppering me with labor union questions. I said I don't have a problem at all working in a non union shop, I'm totally ok with that, I'm OK with not being in a step rate kinda job. I said all the right things. She then said let me see if my manager can interview you. She cam back abruptly and said sorry she can't meet with you today, we will make our decision by the end of next week. Guess what, I was rejected yesterday. Now what do you think it was?

There are questions nowadays that are not allowed to be asked during an interview....I'm wondering if the interviewer crossed that line here? I'm thinking not, but you never know....

I understand "not mentioning", but it was just a quick reaction. She asked last salary, and I said it so fast not thinking anything of it. And who am I Jimmy Hoffa, I'm gonna come in all by my lonesome and organize a whole shop? If I were that dam good, the ###### Teamsters would be all over me, trying to hire me to be an organizer.

jimmy hoffa was just one man.

he started the union ALL BY HIMSELF. did he not.

i don't think 5 guys got together and said LET'S START A UNION.

he prolly went to lunch somewhere and started shooting off his mouth. and some guys decided to be his friends. and IT ALL WENT FROM THERE.

My point was, I am just one man. I can't organize a whole shop by myself, nor do I care too. If I was there to get it in as a mole, and organize from within, would I have told them I was in a union? I mean this is just blatant discrimination.

Union company, went out of business.
Non-union company not looking to hire former union employees from former company.
Don't take it personal. Business owners want nothing to do with organized labor for a reason.
I'm sure they've had to fend off attempts at union infiltration before.
They don't need a former union guy in there peddling influence - they don't know who your are, your connections, etc.

The union company was in no way connected to, or competed with this company in anyway. I guess you agree with discrimination? I wasn't rejected for past performance or anything relevant. I was rejected for past affiliation I had no control over. What is next, they can reject you based on what political party you vote for? Are you really arguing in favor of discrimination? And again if I were just there to get in, start talking unions, and try and organize, why in the hell would I tell them? They should have though, hey this guy is super honest.

    Two highlighted points there.

Admission of the inability to control things around you.
You chose a union job. Yet there were thousands on non union available.

Admission that discrimination ONLY occurs in a non-union job.
While extortion isn't exactly discrimination. I consider being forced to PAY dues to remain employed....discrimination.

And YES....they are already refusing to hire openly liberal applicants.
Rightfully so...IMO. I came to work, to work. NOT discuss politics and political agendas.

Unfortunate but true.... didn't want the possibility of contamination in their 'lil fleet.......... one other pointer from experience........never tell them what you get, tell them what they want to hear.........
