####! I'm due for hometime in a week, along with a pm, so running over there's out of the question.

I'm in VA tonight. Heading to Stuarts Draft in the morning to the Target RDC. After that I have a load back out to OH. Tried to stop at the Flying J in Winchester, VA to buy fuel. They were stacked 3 deep at every pump at 9PM. I'm hoping the Loves in the morning isn't as bad though it probably will be.
I'm also being told that after running for a month they might not be able to get me home for a few days for thanksgiving. I don't see why it's so hard. We spend all this time away from home and want a couple holidays a year to spend with my family. I only get to see my extended family once a year. I could understand if it was last second, but they have a month's notice. -

You can bet that on Thanksgiving day they will all be home with their families having dinner. Even the DBLs who will come in during the day to cover while most of them are out will still go home that night.
What makes it even worse is when I first joined the company I was told that getting driver's home for Thanksgiving and Christmas was important and they would make it happen if we wanted it. Guess I shouldn't have believed that since it wasn't in writing.
If they don't want me staying home for the full 4 days I asked for they better not get me home on Thanksgiving day. I won't be back for the full 4 days. I really don't care if they want to wait to get me home until early Saturday. As long as I don't miss that dinner. -

I'm having to do it with Crete as well. May get through the house for T'giving, but I said "OK". Four days off the next weekend for my birthday. I'll take that....PLUS a specially-prepared Thanksgiving meal from my wife, for whom I am indeed VERY thankful.
Yeah, it's a delicate balance between needs of the customers and the unique position we hold as drivers. But the adage "one hand washes the other" is fading quickly. We'll soon become a society of one-handed amputees. -
