heads? or just this drivers head? because you have a bone to pick? i got to go with autocar on this, you guys are too quick to judge from a picture taken by a bored driver at a truckstop, who aint but a few months from being a open deck rookie himself.

as i posted earlier , this is AT type stuff.

No, I'm not trying to be like At.
Yes I may have bone to pick with them, but they do have certain rules for tie down at said company.
    He is not following them..

As I figure that you are not AT, what is your concern, if it meets FMCSA regs? If it did not meet regs, that would be reason to drop that dime. If it was a truck from my own carrier and did not meet company policy, I would mention it to the driver. If he gave me an attitude back, then I would be more than happy to drop the dime, but not until then.

Im currently oversize, and i remove my 95lb. flag magnets everytime i park for the nite, it only takes 3 minutes to walk around the truck and do a PTI and stick the magnets on as i walk around the truck.... those magnets are 11.00 a piece and id rather not have to replace them.... however the way that dozer is secured, is a little off.... not enough securement for a Dozer that big.... but ive seen worse coming out of John Deere.... ill just leave it at that

Say what you want, but I'm far from a rookie. I hauled heavy machinery long before doing any other trucking. I posted the pic of the OS banner because I found it hilarious the way they put it on their truck. I agree that the flags were most likely removed since its parked for the weekend. Like I said, I'm not going any farther with it as I'm not one to judge another driver. Even if he leaves w/o flags on it, I let the DOT do their job. Maybe it will keep them off our butts and busy with the morons.

it may have started as hilarious but it was going in an entire other direction. there could be many reasons why the guy was hooked to the load. he could have rescued the load from a broken down driver and if not prepared for oversize he did the best he could. in reading some of your posts where you ask how to secure stuff, etc that you havent been at open deck long. i thought i could remember you stating that.

what we all have to remember we are all just a circumstance away from a screw-up, and you may be the guy with your picture on a forum looking like a monkey.

the fact is this thread was heading in a direction of some of those threads about wrecks where the driver is always at fault. i am just pointing out how overly critical some of you get without knowing all the facts.

and concerning the dozer i saw 4 chains on the rear hooked to the tracks, i would assume 4 in the front. exactly what are ATS requirements for chaining on that dozer in the picture

Yeah, the topic was taking a turn for the worse.

He has 2 chains on the rear of each side going to the tracks. 1 chain on the front of each side going to the tracks and 1 chain on the front of each side going to the tie down loop on the dozer itself. Not sure the weight but looked like enough securement to me.

As for the OS sign, I believe the driver just could not figure a way to hook it on his bumper area. He is a "Specialized" division truck, so he should have all the equipment.

But once again, who the heck knows without actually ASKING the driver.

i think we all are guilty at times of forgetting that we all hauled our very first load at one point.

i remember mine a load of double stack roll roofing from savannah, ga to a place on wicomico st, in baltimore,md . i didnt have a clue. since the builders transport truck wouldnt run but 55 in 1979 i couldnt go around a curve fast enough to throw it off.

strange i still remember the street.
