Ok, first of all, I have read this entire thread, and I have to say some of the theories and suggestions posted here are really....out there. I really hope that most of it was all meant as a joke, which would be really sad, because here is someone asking for help and all you can do is make a joke.

Secondly, I've never understood why people who do not currently or never have driven for Swift feel the need to post their comments on the Swift board. Your experiences do not pertain to Swifts policies, procedures or equipment. Swift does not equip their trucks with APU's, as much as we may wish they would. They also do not allow larger inverters unless you have a medical need such as a Cpap machine, in which case a Swift shop must install the inverter.

Finally, I also have a 2012 Cascadia and have no problem with the idle shutdown. Highflight, I know that you have said you have tried everything and I'm not gonna try to argue that you haven't. I haven't seen what you have done so I have nothing to argue with. What I have seen in these posts are only partial steps in the procedure to cancel the shutdown. If you don't mind, I would like to give the steps in a simplified manner without it being my intent to imply that you or anyone else is stupid or anything as such.

Step 1: This may sound silly, but make sure you are not stepping on the clutch or brake when attempting to set the idle. Since these will also cancel the continued idle, it would make sense that they would also prevent it from being set.

Step 2a: Let's assume you have just started the truck and want it to idle for whatever reason. First, turn the cruise control ON, then OFF, then ON again, then push the res/acc switch. The truck will continue to idle.

Step 2b: Now let's assume you have just been driving and have just parked. If you have had the cruise control on while driving, all you need to do is turn the cruise OFF, then back ON, then hit the res/acc switch and it will continue to idle.

It's that simple. But it's not just a matter of turning the cruise on and hitting the resume switch. To activate it properly, you must turn it off then on then hit resume. Or if it was off, you must turn it on, then off and on. No real magic. There is no need to wait for 4.5 minutes to set it. You can start it and set it immediately or you can park and set it. No need to wait.

Also, after it idles for a couple minutes, the qualcom will beep and display a message that says "Intertrip Idle in 60 seconds" and then in 60 seconds it will beep again and display "Intertrip Idle". I'm not real sure exactly what that means, but it does not mean the truck is shutting down. If you watch the dash (again, this is for the 12 Cascadia. I'm not familiar with anything else) the amber engine light will come on and then the red engine light will start flashing. Then you have 30 seconds to do something. Stepping on the clutch will keep it from dying, then you can set the cruise.

Highflight, I hope this procedure helps. As I said, this is how I set it in my 12 Cascadia. If this doesn't work in yours, I would assume there is some problem with the programming.

When your company won't help you idle your Freightliner Cascadia through the night, here are a couple of how-to videos showing creative options:

Option 1 makes the 2012 cascadia press and release its own gas pedal (using the lumbar massage), idling between 600-900 rpms or less. A constant pressure on the gas pedal did not work for me but this oscillation on the gas pedal did:

Option 2 is a lot "prettier" and simpler but is in a 2010 cascadia that has an idle shutdown override button in it. My 2012 does not have that. But here's the vid:

I'm new to this forum. I know this post I'm replying to is 6 months old,... but I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I just got into a 2013 Cascadia with a DD-15 this fixed the 5 minute shut down issue... until I'm able to get into a Frieghtliner to get the timer shut off completely. Won't be able to get that done until sometime next week.

I noticed that doing the ON-OFF-ON-ACC immediately bumps the RPM's to 900 which is good anyway while sleeping,... bumping up the RPM's while sleeping increases the oil pressure keeping oil up in the top of the engine... it keeps the engine in better shape in the long run.

    Anyway,..Thanks again.

None of this applies to the 2014 Cascadia, with respect to the idle shutdown. I sure would like to have this resolved. The Qualcomm doesn't beep the shutdown at all, but my truck shuts down within 5 minutes all the way to hours...more often the last couple days, it happens in 5 minutes. This is with my lease truck, so I'm not sure what the deal is.Anyone else get a white (ooops...pull badges and make it a lease) 14' Cascadia?? Having this problem?

The shop will tell you how to over ride the idle shutdown on any truck.

Yeah...something wasn't setup right on this truck. On the phone with a detroit diesel virtual tech yesterday, I was made aware that I should be able to do the fast idle/cruise feature. That won't work on my truck...there are no fault codes...but I get the Check engine and the red Stop MIL flash after 5 minutes. The tech said the shop should be able reset and program my truck.
Let's just say, for the sake of getting ahead, this is a huge blow after my first week o/o.

There was something that I found out one day the hard way and $100 later. Took my truck into Petro/TA for check engine lite comming on all the time, and by the time that they were finished checking it, was told that there was only 2 places that could find out what was wrong, KW and a Swift shop. The computers on the engines are coded so that only they can find out what is wrong. There are even some things on my truck that when KW hooks up the diagnostic computer, they can not over ride without the shops permission.

Your truck might have at first been set up to be a company truck in some ways, and when went to lease, they forgot to reprogram some of it.

You are right. It probably has factory settings, even minus some which IEL might want in there. I was talking to another o/o last night. He was shocked to hear that I could accelerate beyond 68 mph. But I thought all these lease truck aren't supposed to have any restrictions. By the way...I left the truck running for over 20 minutes while I ran into the store, and the truck was still running! After doing a post trip, let her idle for 40 minutes. Not shutting down now....hmmm. I love finding all the little gremlins in new vehicles. :^)
