Just food for thought. -

Resale has never been a factor in my purchases, as I plan to wear them slap out, when I'm finally done with them. -
I run to San Diego....Plenty of old Shaker COE's running the border freight between Otay and all points South to Mexico........They're ugly as hell....
But a truck doesn't get paid for being pretty...... -
My only issue with the new Petes....The body paint sucks.......
PACCAR no longer believes multiple layers in the coating process....
You get a primer coat....And a combo base/color and top coat.....
My old 379 had 5 coats from the factory IIRC........
These new rigs get chips from bees hitting them....
Pretty effing sad since a new rig costs the same as a mid-range house.....RollingWave Thanks this. -
I bought a new KW and never had a problem with it , along with many internationals and various 379's . I am presently driving a Cascadia which is not my own . Peterbilts and KW's are one of the best built trucks on the market today , they hold their value especially the flatop pete's . Is it true that some Pete owners are like Harley owners? Yes it may be but really who cares ? If they can afford to own a Peterbilt and work it like a truck what difference should it make to others ? I bought my KW from a friend who only put 1,500 miles on it and was going to use it to haul fuel but decided not to go pursue it and sold it to me , I originally spec'ed the truck for him and ordered it how I would have done , I never had one problem with it. I also owned several new internationals and the only problem I had was an actuator on the Turbo other than that nothing . Reasale value is always highest on a pete and then a KW their cabs withstand time because of build quality . Now don't get me wrong , the Cascadia which many of you must know is owned by Diamler ,Part of Mercedes Benz happens to be a very well laid out truck. It has a dd13 with 470 and typically I haul close to gross with no problems . It has a well laid out interior and haven't had any problems with it thus far , of course its still being broken in and only has 19,800 on her clock.

I only wish PACCAR would put more storage in the Petes and KWs. I'm lucky to get 2 weeks supply of food in a Pete. Other than that I have no complaints.

As stated by many the Pete obsession is mostly the 379EXHD and is hedged on quality, comfort and mostly looks.
That said, I can't stand petes especially the 379. Just looks old and outdated and there are soo many on the road today that just look like hell from lack of maintenance. The people I run into that own them generally are of the "super trucker" genre. I guess I am just too biased against them for the same petty reasons others love them.
KW's are my cup of tea. I like the looks and comfort both inside and out on them the most. A W900L aerocab has the smoothest lines that combine modern styling and efficincy with old school styling. They remind me of the old dusenbergs. I prefer more complex styling than a simple box like the 379.
I also prefer the ride height of the KW. I like to sit low in the cab but like being high up like the KW puts you. I actually like the narrow cab too but I dont do long haul. The interior is what sells me on the KWs, theres nothing nicer than a diamond interior.
Another thing i like about KW is their customizability and model range. If I want a long comfy stylish truck they have the w9, if i need a short manuevereable daycab the T800 is excellent and looks good too. The T600 can look nice and most of the T660s are very nice looking as well. But if you need some custom truck setup to go bombing through remote parts of the world at 500,000lbs+ on 54" tires, KW can build it. They have a lot of extra options many dont as well. Smartwheel and sunroof come to mind.
One thing youll notice about the long hoods is resale. If you take a W900L, a T800 & a T600 with the same specs, the only dufference wouls be front axle position and the hood. However that hood adds a lot more value over the t8 as does the t8 over the t6 because the t8 is seen as the tough truck.
Its brand loyalty in a way but PACCAR does have high quality standards. I love our Volvo wheel loader and their truxks are very effecient and ergonomic, however our environment isnt suited well for them and all of the drivers like the idea of a KW instead.
