I took a hard lesson in that, back in the 80s. Never again.

Why is every calender, truck show, magazine cover 1/2 Long hood Pete and 1/2 everything else? I might be wrong but I think every Shell SuperRigs Calender I've ever recieved is more than 1/2 Long Hood Petes. Every chrome catalog I get has 1 or 2 pages of accesories for every brand of truck except Pete where you get 6 pages! YEP like em or not they are the "Harley" of class 8 trucks!

    MNdriver Thanks this.

Chrome makes no money ! Our trucks had a they rough job . Rust was a major issue . Paint just got sand blasted off in days. so no paint and almost constant salt spray, alm was best choice ! Not only on just Pete's. Our trucks would sink in true otr . But nothing else fit. My point is just because it one brand or another its not the best for the job. What ever the job the tool has to be the right one for the job. Brand x was a better fit than brand y, for us(and our special job). Just because you like brand y , dosnt mean is perfect for everybody or their work.

For their application I dont mind them. Never said they looked better than a W9 but for many applications the T800 day cabs are better suited. As a sleeper truck they seem a little out of place unless specd for heavy haul.

Pete's and KW's are pretty much all I will drive and for #### good reason...

Gotta give it to the new KW's they do knock the ball out of the park when it comes to the interior compared to petes...

Those arent high hoods if thats what you meant to show ?

Made In USA to me says overpriced halfway decent quality going to a lazy non-innovative company more focused on buyouts and sellouts than innovation and competition through advertising versus a better product with new ideas.

Europe (especially germany) and japan are light years ahead of us in technology, innovation, quality and value. The main reason I feel is due to the increases competition and the lack of lawyers and sue happy people(ex. You cut your finger off while working and want to collect milllions in pain and suffering, not going to happen. If it truely was an accident they will cover your costs but not a huge settlement case. If your fingers shouldnt have been there , its your problem, you should be paying attention and knoe your machine).

Some superior brands that are very innivative from across the pond.

    Fendt
    Michelin
    BMW
    VAG
    Claas

Americans are still too trustworthy of the Made In USA logo and the big companies know this. They sell on brand loyalty. Even the schools help this.
A lot of kids still think Harvey Firestone invented the tire. Firestone hasn't invented anything over the years. Theyve been riding the coat tails. They are the ecample of an American company. Selling tires to your executive buddy at Ford then later on partner with GM and others in the streetcar scandal to increase your own profits. Look into tires some and youll see Goodyear had some critical inventions and Michelin along with their susidiaries Dunlop and BFGoodrich invented the majority of the tire breakthroughs.

I am a bit of a GM fan heritage wise but itherwise VAG is my preference as is BMW.

Would you like to give your money to a company more focused on their own pockets so much they went bankrupt? GMs profits last year were about $7 billion. VAG made $26 billion. Both are top three automakers volume wise along with toyota.

VAG has actually been lowering the prices on some of their models lately too.
Id rather send my money to Germany to help them innovate versus giving to an American company that will use it for 100 other things before actually doing something useful. Its 2012 now and our brand new Chevy truck only has an express down driver window. Not even the passenger window anymore for the cloth package. My 2000 jetta has express up and down windows tgroughout.

Takes money to make money. Why run a teuck to the ground if it will end up costing you more than what it would to trade it every 5 years.

Large successful businesses will never be out of debt. Its a good thing and part of any business.

Guess no one told roadway , before yellow bought them out. They just thought a grand for an overhaul kit , and the shops time , which they were paying any way, was a good idea. Still some 70 something ford covers running around.

No one way is the right way. But theres two general ways to vase off. Caah flow and capital. Cash flow gets new equipment often with no unexpected expenses due to warranty. In addition most dont even have the costs of owning a shop or mechanics.

Capital relies on running older eqyipment with higher operating costs but lower investment
