Can you register a class 8 truck as a recreational vehicle and run interstate only, not in commerce but just driving the truck as a pleasure vehicle like an RV? That way you don't have to run a logbook?

Yes , the ladies at my local dot office told me that. I was in there doing my IRP crap and they said just pull your dot# and company info off the doors. And they would give me plates as a rv in a second.

But it's one or the other, you can't go back and forth........

i am not disputing that you cannot drop a trailer or do anything else within reason, you are a grown man and should be able to control your whereabouts

its the fact that you have to answer to a computer and you have had to learn how to work around a computer that is troublesome (to me) those are the hoops i am referring to

drop the company stuff and the apportioned plates and put 'NOT FOR HIRE" on both sides then you dont have to stop in at scale houses or run a logbook cause ur considered an RV

i know that, i used to drive a straight truck (ups type) when i was younger, it was my "car"

i could tell you the funny stories

nevertheless, you will get harassed, because if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, DOT is going to question it for being a duck until you prove otherwise
