I was lucky, I had done my Med. Cert. back on Nov. of 2011(8 months earlier), so Im good until Nov. of 2013.
The Meds were 4, 1) 500mg Metaform (for Glucose), 2) Lopid (for Triglycerides), 3) 50mg Sitagliptin/500 Metaform(1 pill combine), 4) Crestor 20mg (for cholestrol). Now I only take 2 which are 1) Sitagliptin/Metaform, 50/500mg,(to keep glucose in control) and 2) Atorvastatin 20mg(to keep cholestrol in control).
I had NO side effects, in addition, I drank cinnanmon hot tea daily and took cinnanmon supplements capsules also, and took fish oil supplements, Flaxseed too.
My weight now is 190 compare to 220 when my problems began. Goodluck

Changes in your health can invalidate a valid medical certificate. Especially with diabetes. Lucky for you that insulin was not required. But, the new health issues could be a problem with the certificate.

[TD]My medical certificate is still valid. Am I prohibited from operating a CMV if I have a medical condition that developed after my last medical certificate was issued?

[TD]FMCSA regulations prohibit a driver from beginning or continuing to drive if their ability and/or alertness is impaired by: fatigue, illness, or any cause that makes it unsafe to begin (continue) to drive a commercial vehicle.
Even if a driver currently has a valid medical certificate, the driver is prohibited from driving a CMV with any medical condition that would be disqualifying or may interfere with the safe operation of a CMV. Once a disqualifying medical condition is resolved, and before resuming operation of CMVs, a driver is responsible for obtaining re-certification from a Medical Examiner. 391.45

About a week or so ago I was in route to get loaded and started feeling real funny. Called the boss and turned around. Got home and check my sugar and it was 485. The next day I got it under control but it was still a tad above normal ie in the 200 ish range. Well my vision started to get blurry and got worse and worse until this last friday evening and I could not read anything with my glasses on. I had to put a set of reading glasses over the lower focal on my glasses (I have bi focals) to even come close to reading anything. I could not even read the big E on the chart with my glasses on. Everything is still blurry and I am grounded for awhile till my vision comes back, if it ever does.

I have type 2 also and have had it for years but I have been neglecting it since Sept and not taking my meds etc.

My husbands grandmother and great-aunt had type I diabetes. Our son is now type 2, but it has been controlled lately by diet only.

I hope you can get it back under control and your eyesight back to where it was. Do you try to follow any type of diet plan.

Yeap you can eat well even at a truck stop restaurant the waiter may look at you funny when you deny the toast and simple carbs in exchange for more meat or eggs like I do.

It took a couple weeks but I am back to reading road signs again. Been back since the 1st of Jan. It was real tough to do anything and it actually got a little worse before it started getting better. One eye was worse then the other which made for a dizzy feeling all the time. It was hard to make out the blurrs. When I went to the Doc, they said no driving PERIOD and my boss was notified also.

The plus side was I got to spend alot of time with the kids over chrstmas break.

mje and Diesel Dave Thank this.
