My biggest problem with these studies is Ive never heard of anyone taking them and NOT having sleep apnea. I realize it can really help folks who do, but something doesnt seem right.

Kick your doctor in the crotch then say, "I sleep just fine but I have this funny knee jerk every time someone want me to line there pocket with my money"

    Ok
Please note that this is not an end to your driving Career. I know. I have apnea, and if I had not gotten treated I would not be alive today. For information on sleep apnea and trucking please see www.awake.truckersforacause.comI hope that this helps

First there is not a DOT sleep apnea study. Now the first thing you need to know is if they will accept a home study. I like them since they are cheaper and they tell the Doc what he needs to know. The bottom line is if you have apnea, and are treated it will help with any other medical issue you have such as Blood Pressure etc. Please private message me if you need more information

well imagine that look around at "drivers" today,a lot can't walk to truck without stopping for rest, you know i want to ask these drivers...were you this big before you started driving or did that barrel of soda you carry around do it or was it the fast food and buffet.the stuff i read on here borders on utterly ridiculous to unbelievable, you look like pigs, act like fools, cant drive.then look at drivers like me and a few others on here who been out here 30 plus years and say we caused all this....look in the mirror you fools grow up take a bath, take pride in yourself and this industry, and we will all be better off

Does having a cpap machine disqualify you from driving? I've been driving local for 5 yrs and sleeping at home. Going to have to go back otr because of company closing my terminal, will companies allow me to work with a cpap?

For the umpteenth time...weight alone is not a cause of sleep apnea. It can be as much hereditary as anything. I know, because I have SOSA (Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea), my father (a physician) has it, and we strongly suspect that his father had it as well.

Weight and neck size are potential indicators.

And to Mr. Fester....when I was diagnosed, I was with Schneider. I took the test along with another driver. He snored, but did not have SA. I have it, and a severe case of it. Now, some companies including my present employer (Crete) ARE in it for the money, no question. Technicians at Crete have been known to tell a driver "Well, you fall on the 'don't need' side of the line, but just by a little, so we're going to require you to purchase and use a machine anyway". That is crap, and an example of the biggest problem with so-called "flavor of the month" medicine. But SA is real. The level of danger it presents seems to be in the eye of the company you're going to work for.

Personally, I will be ever grateful to Schneider for putting me through the study. I likely would have died in my sleep at some point from lack of oxygen. I have the "wake up choking" type of apnea, so it IS real for many of us.

I've used mine OTR since October, 2007. Started with Schneider, now with Crete. Never an issue.

Might have to get a different machine, if you already have one. One that has battery backup and a recording chip or something so when you go for DOT physical docs can see it being used. I don't know specifics but I would wager 48packard does.

there are two kinds of sleep apnea : obstructive sleep apnea generally caused by something obstructing the airway (such as weight, neck or tongue) and central sleep apnea where your brain causes it. CPAP will help with both kinds (or BIPAP in some cases)

to the OP: the doctor ''RECOMMENDED" a sleep test but was it ORDERED?
there is a big difference and if you got your med cert for 2 yrs............
