Today during school we stopped at the truck stop for a break, while we were there an older driver at the fueling station looked like he was kinda out of it. When he pulled out of the fuel island he clipped the pole with his tandems even though he had plenty of room to pull straight out. He then got out took a quick look at his trailer and started to leave. He then pulled out into the side street as a car was passing and came very close to clipping it, I dont think he ever even noticed it. Then as he starts to pull onto the main street the truck was really bogging down like he was starting in 6th gear. I was very tempted to call highway patrol to report him and kinda of figured that our instructor would but I didnt and neither did he. Looking back now I wish I would have because he could have went down the road and hurt or killed himself or someone else. What would you have done?

Asked the instructor why he didn't call.

You are going to see this stuff a lot out there, and many fellow truckers won't be calling authorities about things like that. It's a weird kind of ethics.

I see your location listed as NC.. kinda curious as to whereabouts it happened?

If he was looking out of it, I would went over and asked him if everything was ok, sometimes driving these rigs will knock out of your awarness zone. Who was he driving for?

I was sitting at a TA lunch counter a couple of weeks ago. Driver comes in, sits down and orders food. Talks with another driver about where he's been, how the company's been running him ragged for peanuts, typical lunch counter talk.
Then.
He pulls out a small black zipper case. Inside is a blood glucose meter. I think nothing of it until he gets his CBG reading, then pulls out another case containing insulin and syringes. Proceeds to draw up insulin and injects himself with it.
Wonder if the driver you saw was having a diabetic issue? Apparently insulin dependent diabetics can get around the medical requirement somehow. -
No worries, all Swift drivers do that.
Chinatown Thanks this.
