So, as the title says, having an issue with my setup.

While parked, with the squelch and rf gain all the way up, I get decent reception (3 miles at my job). However, as soon as I hit say, 25-35mph, I have absolutely no static, cant receive or send apparently because radio checks turn up nuts and I never hear anyone until I come to a stop sign/light.

This issue has been coupled with a SWR issue. With the Cobras internal swr meter, calibrated as it should be, I am not getting ANY swr when I switch over from cal to swr. Absolutely nothing, on any channel, not even a minor bump. No antenna light either.

    Thanks for any input!

Antenna loose and losing its ground when running down the road?????

My thought too! Check antenna mount and the nylon washer where the stud screws onto the antenna mount.
When running down the road the center conductor could be grounding to the mount.

Also if you have an extra antenna around swap it out and see if the problem still exists.

Is this a bracket mount or magnet?

    Voltrucker and BigByrd47119 Thank this.

    Magnet.

This is what I was worried about to be honest. The swr issue is actually occuring while sitting still as well.

I guess the only thing to try is another antenna.
I have a Wilson "lil Will" and a Wilson 1000 magnetic.
Both work very well and were easy to set the SWR on.

Maybe there is a problem in the base of the K-40,moisture getting in or the windings.
Does the base unscrew from the magnet mount? You could take a look inside it.

Anyone have a picture of this nylon washer?

I thought a poor or non-existant ground would cause the swd to spike not read 0?

EZ, what kind of range are you getting with the little will??? Havnt been able to find ANY range info on it. Barefoot information if possible, dont have any desire for an amp...

There is no nylon washer on a mag mount. Just mirror mounts

Pulled apart the antenna. Is that dilectric grease between the base and coil?

There was a metal plate inside that connects from the dome portion of the base and touches the bottom of the base, inside of it. It had a lot of corrosion, gonna clean that up, and some other small areas of corrosion. Should know if this is a fix by tomorrow some time.

In the mean time, is it possible that while driving the wind is pulling on the mast and cauaing the plate I mentioned earlier to lose contact with the base?
