No, he was new and didn't know any more then there was a gravel parking lot that trucks turned around in. The guys working with him gave him a lot of grief about it as well. It kind of took a little of the heat off of my stupidity...only a little.

    Hi Sheriff

Thanks for the updates as always.

I was curious. Are you doing heavy haul or just regular frieght?
I ask because I heard my terminal in Sumner, WA is a Costco heavy haul terminal.

Also, are you going to get any runs up to Canada? Or do you want them?

I heard that Sumner, Troutdale and Lewiston are the 3 terminals that do the runs up to Canada. I know I want to get my enhanced license after a few months solo so I can get some of those Canada runs.

I don't know how dark it was for ya, but I made sure at night I had a portable spotlight with me that i could shine between trailers and ahead of the truck. More focused beam so mud stood out better then with normal headlights and helped read distant trailer numbers. Million candle and really long cord so it came in handy for other stuff to. Never got stuck after bought that.

Good stuff right there. I think I have one at the house. I'll be throwing it in when I get there.

I pull a regular dry van, not any of the heavy haul stuff.
I'll go to Canada if I get a load. They tried to give me one the other day but I didn't have the hours. I carry my passport all the time. Old habits.

    DocWatson and Bigdubber Thank this.

I do my best to leave my DM alone. It cant be too easy instucting 60 drivers all over the country and keeping track of them all. I dont know anything about my DM except his name, and im content keeping it that way. However, I do what im supposed to do, and he does what he's supposed to do, so there really isnt a need for me to call or him to call. 98% of our communication is via qualcomm.

Hey, I know this was way back at the beginning of this thread, but I am curious as to how Swift handled that violation. Were you in big trouble or did they just give you a lecture? I understand the importance of not going over, but I am also getting the impression that you're kind of screwed into it sometimes. How big of a deal does this really end up being in the long run?

Going over your hours can cost you.

While in training, our safety guy told us a story.

Drivers was driving and was over his legal hours when a drunk smashed into the rear of his trailer at a red light. Drunk died. Driver was givin 8 years for vehicular man slaughter because he shouldnt have been on the road...

Dont know if thats a true story or not, but I see how it could turn out like that.

How far over was that guy though? I've driven 17 minutes over since I got held at the border and there's no safe place to park there and I was just down the rd from our yard so I kept driving right back. Boss said I did what I had to do and that was fine.

I was told that you can drive over enough to get to a safe haven, but not over thirty minutes.
