I assume that means yes. I know that YRC was hiring like crazy in St. Paul not long ago for road drivers. Not sure if that's what your looking for or not. Road drivers are hired on as full time not casuals. If I were you I would go down to the union hall and ask if they know any companies in the area that are hiring. That's local 120 and its one of the biggest locals in the country

There aren't any YRC jobs available currently, but I'll keep looking. Still not truly sure that running freight/packages is my ideal gig, but hard to beat the pay/benefits. The lack of turnover tells me great things though, so that is certainly something to keep in mind.

They arent hiring because of the layoffs still. As per our contact with the teamsters everyone layed off must be re-hired or offered a job back first

Gotcha. It'll be a few weeks before ABF calls back I think. Going to pass on the fuel job. Otherwise I'll keep looking.

I'd say that's a good decision. Out here in Cali all the fuel jobs have been subbed out. Used to see Chevron, Arco, and some others. Now they are gone. Last driver I talked to at Chevron was making 28+ an hour with ot after 8. I believe they were union. This was in 2001. Now all I see is this company called KAG or others that are owned by KAG. They all pay straight pay and start at 18-21 an hour. That's about the top out pay as well. I saw a guy today that had a heck of a time getting into this tight little gas station. Forget it. ABF is a really good place to work. I have a friend that runs teams doing cryo and he made 82k last year. He's home almost every weekend too.

Yeah, sounds very similar to the area around here as well. I'll keep looking. Anyways, I've hijacked this thread enough. Thanks for all the info guys, I do appreciate it. I'll get back to the sidelines, and reading about the lives of the YRC workers here. Thanks again!

Don't worry. As I've been saying all along. You'll all be back to work soon. They called all road drivers back at Chicago last week and are once again in hiring mode. I think 6-10 guys did not return from the layoff.

They called more guys back here as well. I think I'll be called back real soon. But, as long as guys above me keep 'not' answering their phones, I'm good. lol
