Cool, thanks Colorato! Another question - how heavy are the chains, approx? I used soft straps when I ran my enclosed 8 pack & I had elbow surgery and repetitive lifting is not an option. I'm in the final pre hire phase w/URS and would hate to be out in the middle of nowhere and discover my elbows won't work to bind the load.

Not many manufacturers allow chains anymore - even if you end up with a truck that has chains, chances are that (unless you are on a dedicated run of something like Fords) your truck will have enough chain or ratchet straps for at least a 9 car load, so my point is, even if you're hauling models that can be chained, use straps anyway, it's not like you're going to hurt anything or get in trouble ......

Thanks, SL - I won't be returning to cars after all much as I'd love too, gonna stay dragging boxes around. I'll always relish my memories of car haul, however.
LaterSpeedloader Thanks this. -

I want to get into this badly just concerned about making the change. UR and PMTG are the only outfits in this area hiring. Just so much hit and miss info out there

What are you wanting to know about them? I worked there from 2006-2009. Trust me when I tell you this, I was a company driver there and made decent money, but I fell off the top of the trailer and was injured. I was on workers comp for over 1.5 years before the bones in my back healed. But United Road sends a letter to anyone that gets hurt, that if you don't come back to work within 6 months of your injury, you are job will be terminated. I HAVE THIS IN WRITING.
They don't care about their drivers at all. -
I'm an O/O leased to UR. I've been with them since they acquired Auction Transport in 01, that's who I was leased to originally. My settlements are always correct, and I've always found them to be pretty easy to deal with. They can take no for an answer when I pass on a load, and they've been more than a little helpful when I've had the occasional major breakdown. Maybe there are better companies to lease a car hauler to, but they've given me no reason to search for one.
All that said, I'm not sure I could work for them as a company driver. Some of the loads the company guys get forced onto just don't make any sense.Speedloader Thanks this. -
Welcome to the forum Stackin10. Good first post. Trawl around and post some more.

Ditto on Stackin10. I have been leased to URS since 03. I wouldn't say one company is any better than the other. URS does have pretty new equipment for the company guys.
