Yes. But realize that Apple takes a significant commission from the developer at the time of sale from iTunes. So they kinda do charge for apps in an indirect way.

He didn't say anything about charging for apps. Apple charges developers $99/year for the "privilege" of developing apps for iOS. Once you develop the app, there is no guarantee that Apple will bless it and put it up on their store. You can't simply give your buddy a copy of your app to put on their phone.

Anyone can download the Android development kit for free, make their app, and post their app anywhere they see fit. No third party involvement needed.

There are two kinds of "free"; free as in "free beer", and free as in "free speech". That's the difference.

Apple also makes 30 cents for each app sold at 99 cents. With android, sure its nice to be able to download an app from anywhere but at the same time you also have to worry about viruses. Much harder to get a virus from the app store since they vet all apps.

I use the android app store, all apps are screened for viruses. This doesn't mean that all apps are great but they are safe. I've been using android since pre 2.0 and of the numerous apps I've downloaded from the app store, some paid and some free, I've never had a problem with viruses or other spyware.

You have been lucky then. I used to have android but switched to apple about a year ago. I downloaded an app from android and my phone became infected. I had to hard reset it and lost everything, then had to put an antivirus on it, that ate up a lot of my battery. I decided until apps or developers were screened better I would stick with apple. Of course apple has its drawbacks, I wish I could tether it without having to jailbreak the thing or pay extra to sprint.

    Stupid..
You can get runover at the Truckstop, better quit going.

I have an Android Phone haven't had any issues.

There are lots of Good Apps out there.
All of the major Truckstops have Apps.
Cat Scale App, Blue Beacon App.

States now are coming out with Apps for Road Conditions
Not exactly an App but CO DOT has an EXCELLENT SITE
    cotrip.org

    I use FoxFi also.
I use Stormeye and or NWSService Radar($) for Weather Radar.
Google Maps should be included if you have an Android Phone.

    BigRoad.

Is anyone using this app? I just downloaded it from a suggestion from CDLLife on my Facebook.

    Linky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot1WnthX8aI&feature=youtu.be

Looking at the app, I am noticing it makes a list for all other apps that would be helpful for us. Apps from T/A, Loves etc, Cat scales, Streakin' Beacon, truck dealers, wifi finders and others.

It has a built in log book, GPS navigation, ability to send and receive message if you have texting. Easy to find links to your phone dialer, navigation, and alarm clock.

I'm looking forward to giving it a try in the next week. I hope this app does not bring fail like so many others.

Wow can't believe no one mentioned Allstays for truckers. This app shows all truckstops, walmarts, lowes, and weigh stations. I have used for about a year, it is accurate and better than any truck stop book. You can see satellite pics of all, too. It will locate you on the map and show all that is near you. I paid $4.95 for the app, the developer updates the app regularly at no additional charge.

It looks like it is $9.99 now. The one thing I don't like about Trucker Tools is it just gives you everything in a radius so you have to sift through to get what is on your route. This looks like it might help solve that problem somewhat.

But, TT is free. It is amazing my $400 Garmin only lists the major brand truck stops but a free app for your phone lists every one, large and small.
