There's freight of all kinds here and rates from cheap cheap cheap to cha-ching $$$......be aware if you pull a company van your % of the gross revenue is 65%.....you get 100% of any fsc money collected but the norm is now to include that in the overall gross instead of separating linehaul out....this is called an all in rate.....fsc is then broken out of that amount......also you will be required to run an EOBR......you will pay for your own insurances, plates, ifta....HUT2290 tax, the LS communication network, EOBR service fee and prepass....through LS plates are 1600 a year, ifta and permit package is 350 a year then your weekly costs will be probably $60-80 or so for the rest...deducted from your settlement. You will not get paid for empty miles.

There is no such thing as an average trip, you run your freight and your business as you see fit regarding what you haul and where you go....the idea here is less miles for more money as best you can afford, and controling your costs. Getting to know the LS system and filtering out the good and bad agents will be key and this will take time and persistance.

FSC has nothing to do with anything...... The bottom line is what the check is for. You can add whatever line to the check you want but in the end its all about the final amount. FSC or not. These companies act like well we gave you .60 a mile for FSC. and then you look at the rate and it blows. So whats the difference? I hate when they put FSC on my check acting like they are doing someone a favor. Puhlease. It's all about the amount I am cashing the check for. Not what it says i received for this that and the other thing.

The only insurance required by LS is unladen liability, mine is $19.45 per week and CPP (Occupationl Accident), mine is $35.88 per week but i have the maximum policy. The montly service fee for ath MCP50 EOBR is $27.25 per month. The permit package is $200 per year, not $350 and deducted at $11.11 per week, until paid. LCN (Landstar Communications Network) and PrePass are optional, although most get them. LCN is $3.69 and PrePass is $2.50 per week, each. Dang if I know what Bob means by the $60 to $80 per week, I haven't seen anything like that in the 13+ years I've been leased here.

Workmans Comp is not needed for a single operation. Check the Federal laws. So why buy it. And you can buy a BS policy through your insurance for 600 a year rather than the 1800 a year Autocar has just reccomended. As far as EOBR. Thats another 327 dollars a year that could be in YOUR pocket rather than LS. Let them pay for it. If they want it in your truck then let them pay for it. I guess if you like being micro managed then LS is a GREAT place to work. But I became an O/O for the freedom.

LS requires either Occupational Accident Insurance, or Workman's Comp in the contract. The policy can be bought anywhere, but must meet minimum standards, set forth in the contract. We have three levels available, through our inhouse agency, I have the highest paying, which means the highest premiums.
Not much micro managing happening here. I seldom hear from Corporate on anything. And I doubt you have much more freedom than the average LS driver.

I wouldn't doubt too much if I were you. First of all I don't have an EOBR in my truck. And yes I understand that is a new requirement. Either way. Thats just for starters. Anytime you wanna compare hometime and deadzones. My books are wide open. So i would say that an O/O with their own authority and trailer has at least 2 more freedoms.

Nope, just file a claim and get my medical bills paid, plus an income, until the doctor releases me to go back to work. That is what it is for, to cover myself. They'll even cover fixing my roids, so I can be a perfect a-hole.
